FIA criticised over Bahrain Grand Prix decision by British media – Formula 1 news
The president of FIA Jean Todt has been highly criticised by the British media over keeping quiet on the crucial matter of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
When the GP2 practice was cancelled in Bahrain, Todt was approached by the media to take his word on the Formula 1 Grand Prix which was scheduled for next month but all he said was, “At the moment there is no reason to have unnecessary concern.”
And now when the decision has been made the word has come from the FIA that, “We support the decision,” Jean Todt is still quiet on the issue.
Todt was formally executive director of Scuderia Ferrari and then the chief of Ferrari. In 2009, he was appointed as the President of FIA. He is said to have some relations with the Prince as in 2007 the Prince brought 30 percent shares in the defending
champion team ART Grand Prix. The rest of the 70 percent shares were split between founder Frederic Vasseur and Nicolas Todt- the son of Jean Todt.
This is not it as the Prince’s second son is a member of FIA’s World Motor Sport Council and played a key role in Todt’s presidency. These two factors were raised against Todt as he was quite over the whole process.
The Prince made it official on Monday that the Bahrain Grand Prix cannot be held in such crucial circumstances. He said, “At the present time the country’s entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for Bahrain.”
The FIA commented on that, “I'm a little bit disappointed that it has now been postponed, but if you look at the way that part of the world is at the moment, it is the only thing anyone could do.”
He further said that the race is not cancelled and just postponed for some later time. It will be adjusted in between the last two grands prix.
It will be interesting to see how Jean Todt responds to these allegations.
