FIA hoping to stick to original deadline for Bahrain Grand Prix
According to some recent reports, it was revealed that the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) might postpone the deadline for the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Formula 1 Management’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone recently stated that if the government and organizers of the venue believe that the event can be moved forward, the FIA might postpone the deadline for the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Bernie believes that the decision needs more time but the FIA on the other hand has recently announced that they would like to get done with this decision as soon as possible. The deadline for this decision is the 1st of May, which is just 2 days
away.
“As far as we are concerned a decision is still due on Sunday. Because it's a weekend it may be Monday morning that we announce the decision, but we haven't spoken to Mr Ecclestone about any delay. The decision will be a joint one between the FIA, [Ecclestone's]
Formula One Management and the Bahrain authorities”, said Bernie.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was initially scheduled, as the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season but due to the political unrest and violent protests in the country. The government of the city was forced to cancel the event but the FIA later on decided
that if the condition in the country stabilizes, they are willing to reschedule the race around the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, since the situation in the country is getting even worse as each day passes by, it seems that the chances of holding a Bahrain Grand Prix this year are becoming bleak.
The country is currently in a state of emergency for 3 months and until or unless the country’s situation becomes stable, holding a race in the country would be very risky for the organizers.
There is a possibility that the Bahrain Grand Prix can be rescheduled between the Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but it seems that this decision might get postponed.
