FIA keeping an eye on 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
International Automobile Federation (FIA) has expressed that they are consistently observing the Bahrain Grand Prix which is going to be held at the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir on April 22, 2012.
Regardless of the blazing conditions of civil unrest and public demonstrations in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the organisers and FIA have been quite confident about the occurrence of the race.
Damon Hill, former F1 driver insisted the governing body of FIA to give second thoughts to the race in Bahrain due to the ongoing protests and turbulence in the country even after giving it a green signal back in January.
Moreover, Richard Burden, British MP also advised to cancel the race.
Nevertheless, FIA has finally given a statement about its stance for the third GP and said the circumstances in Bahrain are being constantly observed.
“The FIA is constantly monitoring and evaluating the situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” an FIA spokesman is quoted by Reuters. “We are in daily touch with the highest authorities, the main European embassies and of course the local promoters at BIC (Bahrain
International Circuit) as well as the international promoter.”
It will be important to mention that FIA have encouraged the local co-ordinators of the race in Bahrain for their efforts to ensure its occurrence.
“The FIA is the guarantor of the safety at the race event and relies, as it does in every other country, on the local authorities to guarantee security. In this respect we have been repeatedly assured by the highest authorities in Bahrain that all security
matters are under control,” he said.
F1 chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone, when asked about the security of the teams in Bahrain GP, said that the security has not been an issue and they will make sure that all the necessary steps for ensuring the safety of all the teams and audiences be taken.
He also said that media should only quote the reality rather than making up the projections about the issue.
Besides, the officials of F1 have been optimistic about the next GP at Bahrain even after the death of a person as a result of the violence.
