FIA make front wing tests stricter for 2013 – Formula 1 news
FIA have made the front wings tests stricter for the 2013 Formula 1 season after the last World Motor Sport Council meeting in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday.
The Federation have confirmed that the next year’s cars will have to go through tighter front wing deflection tests as compared to this season.
The amendments in the front wing test regulations have been made because there was a lot of debate regarding this matter during this year.
Moreover, Red Bull Racing faced immense difficulties concerning their car’s design during the start of the season because they could not fully understand the changes in the rules by FIA.
Nevertheless, they kept on fighting well throughout the season and their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey successfully developed the most competitive car in the field towards the end which helped them in winning their third consecutive world drivers’
and constructors’ championship titles.
In addition, Newey expressed that the development of RB8 was the hardest work in his career so far. However, the genius again proved his tremendous potential and surprised everyone with his amazing engineering skills.
In addition to the changes in the front wing tests, FIA have also restricted the use of DRS and the drivers will only be able to use it in the designated zones in the race.
Furthermore, some minute alterations have also been made in the front roll structure design of the car and there will be an increase in the minimum weight limit to balance for the increase in the load of the tyre.
It will be important to note that the president of FIA, Jean Todt has recently said that he wants the race stewards to be more consistent in their decisions in the next season in order to ensure the element of appropriateness to avoid any kind of misunderstandings
regarding the imposed penalties.
Besides, the present force majeure allowance has been deleted by FIA which can be used during the qualifying so as to know how much fuel the car would require to get back to the pits.
Additionally, the team staff curfew has been extended from 6 to 8 hours on Thursday night before the free practice, with only two exceptions allowed instead of four, for the coming year.
