FIA makes minor tweaks for 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
International Automobile Federation (FIA) has made announcement regarding some changes in DRS rules for a wet race which will be implemented in the upcoming season starting off next week at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
World Motor Sport Council of FIA held a meeting in Milan, Italy for the first time during this year and made three amendments to the rules which were later agreed upon by the Formula 1 Commission.
Drag Reduction System (DRS) actually provides support to the driver to give a speed boost by changing the angle of the rear wing during the race behind the contender.
Moreover, according to FIA this system can only be used by the driver on track if he has a supplementary tool in order to assist with passing, the use of which is upon the discretion of the driver himself.
The tweaks in the DRS rules were made for ensuring the safety of the drivers on the track during the rain and the FIA race director, Charlie Whiting might forbid the use of DRS if he feels that the visibility on the track is not feasible during the wet conditions.
FIA said, “This has been done as a result of safety concerns over large speed differentials between cars.”
Furthermore, the FIA has confirmed that if both the practice sessions on Friday are declared wet, the teams can take one set of slick tyres with them on Saturday of a race weekend.
In addition to the changes in the DRS rules for rain, the FIA has also consented to make the rules concerning the team staff curfews more simple to make sure that the periods of rest remain even all over the season in order to avoid any misunderstanding.
It will be quite exciting to mention here that in the first Grand Prix there are going to be double DRS zones as compared to the last year in which there was only one at the pit straight.
Besides, it has been reported that the second DRS zone will be located between turns 2/3 or 12/13.
