FIA officially restores Indian Grand Prix to its original date in October 2011 – Formula 1 news
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has restored the Indian Grand Prix to its original date of October 30, 2011 for its inaugural race.
The Indian Grand Prix was delayed after the World Motor Sport Council meeting took place earlier in June 2011. The FIA wanted to accommodate the postponed Bahrain Grand Prix in October which was initially expected to take place as the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season but since the country is currently going through a political turmoil, the race had to be postponed from its initial spot.
Officials including the chief executive officer of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone believed that the Bahrain Grand Prix can take place if the FIA reschedules it and keeps it somewhere between the last couple of races. They reinstated the Bahrain Grand Prix for October 30, 2011 in place of the Indian Grand Prix but since the teams and the people of Bahrain did not want the race to take place this year, the Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled from the 2011 calendar.
However, if the Bahrain Grand Prix did take place, then it was expected that the Indian Grand Prix would be held in mid December but since that is not going to happen, the inaugural Indian race will now take its original spot once again.
During this whole process, the organisers of the Indian Grand Prix were quite cooperative and according to some recent reports, the new racing track in India is almost complete.
“The track will get completed by the end of July or first week of August. We expect the homologation to take place in August. Grandstand, paddock, hospitality and press facilities would be completed by September end, at the latest,” said a spokesman for the organizers of the Indian Grand Prix.
The rest of the races are going to take place as originally planned while the inaugural Indian Grand Prix is expected to be one of the grandest races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
