FIA president Jean Todt claims Mexican Grand Prix can be reintroduced in Formula 1
International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Jean Todt has recently stated that the Mexican Grand Prix can become a part of the Formula 1 calendar once again in the future.
“As part of the meetings I am doing I intend to see the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. Today Mexico is an economically strong country and I am convinced that in the future it is possible,” he said.

However, he did not reveal when it can be reintroduced to the sport as the Formula 1 calendar is pretty much jam packed until the 2014 Formula 1 season with the introduction of the US and Russian Grands Prix alongside around 18 of the current established
tracks at least.
“We know that the races have a cost. There are also a number of criteria for the approval of an event, especially in the safety parameter,” Todt added.
Even the 2012 Formula 1 season is expected to hold around 20 races according to the latest report released by the Formula 1 Management chief Bernie Ecclestone.
The Turkish Grand Prix will not be a part of the calendar anymore but with the introduction of the Indian Grand Prix as well this year, it seems that there is not much room for any more races.
Even if there is room for some more races, the teams are not willing to compete in a season with more than 20 races.
Other than the Mexican Grand Prix, it is believed that an African Grand Prix is also in the organiser’s list for the future which is expected to be held in Cape Town, South Africa.
With a Mexican driver in the sport as well currently, it seems that after the next couple of years, a Mexican Grand Prix would be a very successful introduction to the Formula 1 calendar and until then, settling it in the Formula 1 calendar might be possible.
Mexico has a pretty good fan following of Formula 1 and since the country is now economically stable, holding a race there might not be a bad idea at all.
