FIA president Jean Todt thinks Michael Schumacher may come back to racing – Formula 1 news
FIA president Jean Todt has said that Michael Schumacher may decide to come back to racing in the categories of autosport other than Formula 1, in a couple of years.
Schumacher returned to F1 back in 2010 with Mercedes. However, he was completely outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg in the preceding two seasons and failed to attain competitive results for his team.
Even though, he performed comparatively well in this season as he managed to secure an incredible third podium finish in the European Grand Prix, but he faced some technical and tyre management issues due to which he could not score points with consistency.
The seven-time world champion announced his retirement from the sport after the news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Silver Arrows in the next season was confirmed during this year.
Nevertheless, there are many who believe that the record championship holder will remain in the world of autosport. Meanwhile, Todt has recently expressed that the veteran German driver may come back in a couple of years.
“But, who knows,” Frenchman Todt said, “maybe he will decide to come back to racing in a couple of years.”
Furthermore, Todt said that although Schumacher has taken retirement from F1, but he can participate in other racing events.
“His decision [to retire] relates only to F1. He could decide to race in other categories,” he added, according to reports in the Italian media.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn has paid tribute to Schumacher and called him the best driver of the last century.
Besides, Brawn said that he has known the legendary driver for quite a long time and they share some of the most memorable moments which they will always cherish in their lives ahead.
On the other hand, Schumacher said that he is very much pleased with his overall achievement in his career. Although, the 43-year-old didn’t express anything special about his future plans, but it will be immensely interesting to see the veteran driver returning
and racing in other formats of the sport in the future.
