FIA reveals calendar for 2012 Formula 1 season featuring record 21 races – Formula 1 news
After the confirmation of the Bahrain Grand Prix for the 2011 season, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced the 2012 calendar for Formula 1 comprising of a record 21 races set to take place during the year.
The Bahrain Grand Prix is expected to take place on October 30, 2011 now as a replacement for the Indian Grand Prix. However, the FIA has not revealed the exact date for the Indian GP yet.
They stated that the race will take place by the end of the year but the exact date will be revealed after some time as the organisers discuss the situation and come up with as many options as they can.
Nevertheless, in the 2012 Formula 1 season, the season will open with two back-to-back races with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 11 as the season opener followed by the Australian Grand Prix on March 18.
After a two-week break, the Malaysian and Chinese Grand Prix are expected to take place followed by the Korean Grand Prix which has apparently moved to an earlier spot in the Formula 1 calendar. The Korean Grand prix will take place on April 22 followed
by the Turkish Grand Prix May 6.
However, the Turkish Grand Prix is “subject to change” as the FIA is yet to confirm the race. Other than that, the US Grand Prix is going to take place in Austin, Texas for the first time in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The American race is expected to take place on June 17 and it is expected that it is going to be one of the biggest events of the upcoming season.
Despite other minor date changes, the Indian Grand Prix is expected to take place on the October 28 next year. With the addition of the US Grand Prix, it seems that there are going to be 21 races in the upcoming season which is quite surprising.
