FIA wants Formula One to engage in environment friendly programs
Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of Formula One racing, has welcomed the idea of all participating teams to make the sport a more environment-friendly event. Participating teams have put forward their suggestions that they must all try to reduce carbon emissions produced by their respective cars during practice runs and at regular racing events.
FIA has not only welcomed the idea whole heartedly but also has ensured that it will extend all the necessary support towards the cause. The idea was volunteered by the teams themselves owing to the environmental threats caused by increasing carbon emissions around the globe.
All the teams have mutually come to an agreement that they will try to design F1 engines and power trains that will not only enhance the fuel efficiency but would also decrease the emission of carbon in the air. The FIA has extended its full support towards the teams’ decision by saying that the sport’s regulations would also be amended accordingly so that they would support a greener Formula One race. The new rules and engines will be functional from 2013 onwards. The organising body also explained that the rules would be designed in a way to enhance competitive benefit towards the team that would reduce fuel consumption.
FIA informed about its plans to introduce a complete new program in order to highlight the important role that advanced technology can play in order to reduce carbon emissions over the years. By the look of things, technology advancements related to carbon reductions could add a lot to the automobile sector. Moreover, the FIA thinks that Formula One teams can together play a leadership role for the entire world in order to develop efficiency solutions that could be used in the entire automobile sector.
It had been a long while now that the teams have been carrying their internal researches related to carbon emission produced by Formula One’s racing activities. The on-track race is just a very small part of a very big chain and involves a very small proportion of the total damage that is done by the sport to the environment. A few amendments have already been made within the teams and the FIA rules and many more are expected to come out very soon.
The CEO of McLaren Racing, Martin Whitmarsh commented upon the entire program saying that the good work has started and all the teams as well as FIA officials are working in close cooperation. He added that some success has already been achieved and the engineers and experts are planning to work even more efficiently. He told that their team anticipates on reducing total carbon emission from their car by 12.4% till 2012.
FIA is also closely working with Environmentally Sustainable Motor Sport Commission and as per current reports; the teams have shown consistency with the recommendations made by the body. The program designed takes full use of all the technology available which is why the desired results are expected to materialise in the next few years.
Apart from the carbon emission reduction program, the FIA is also actively participating in other projects that would help improve the environment. Formula One is committed to carry out further awareness programs to all auto sports events so that that they can also put in their share in improving the environment of the world we live in today.
The FIA is also playing a very vital role in developing a number of environmental solutions such as the power train development. It is also trying to improve the construction methodology and at the same time reduce the noise production in cars. It is hoped that all the earth friendly work will augur well for the future generations.
