FIA will make right decision regarding use of DRS at Monaco Grand Prix – Tonio Liuzzi
Hispania Racing Team’s (HRT), Vitantonio "Tonio" Liuzzi , has recently stated that he trusts the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and that he is hoping for the best regarding the DRS (Drag Reduction System) zone for the Monaco Grand Prix this
year.
Most of the teams and critics suggested that DRS should not be used for the Monte Carlo circuit because of the fact that the system has proved to be dangerous at street circuits and since Monte Carlo is one of the “most twisty” circuits of the sport, Rubens
Barrichello along with some other people believe that using DRS for the Monaco Grand Prix is “just wrong”.
Formula 1 is known for its safety in motorsports, but these sorts of stunts might dent the sport’s image severely.
According to the map of the circuit, the long “tunnel” straight seems to be the best option, as the DRS zone and Liuzzi agreed that this is going to be the most dangerous DRS zone this season.
“Our main question mark was for the race, in case we were allowed to use it in the tunnel as that's more dangerous if you crash. I just hope that it is used sensibly and they put it in a good position to use in the race”, he told the media.
When asked which section of the track he preferred for the DRS zone, he replied maybe the “straight at the start/finish line”.
“It's a difficult choice but I'm sure the FIA will make the right decision. For sure it (DRS) is making racing more artificial because the difference [in speed] is huge once you use it and overtakes are much easier. But the problem is that when there was
not much overtaking people complained too”, said Liuzzi.
He added that the kind of racing we get to see nowadays is more exciting than it used to be because of the fact that there is more overtaking now and that is a good thing for Formula 1.
