FIBA Asia C’ Ship Quarter Finals Review – China rout Lebanon; Korea knock out Japan – Part 2
China 68 – Lebanon 48
A low scoring affair went China’s way as the number 10th ranked team in the world marched into the semi finals of the FIBA Asia Championship. Lebanon were never really expected to make a dent against their stronger opponents
but kept the scores close, at least for the first half. The margin at the end though was pretty wide as the game petered out 68-48 to China.
The Chinese side might no longer possess the imposing figure of Yao Ming in their ranks but are still more than a match for anyone in the tournament. They produced a stellar team performance in the game with not many individual
highlights.
Two players that did manage to shine were point guard Wei Liu and Jianlian Yi. Liu had the team high points with 13 while Yi came just behind with 12 points, narrowly missing the double-double with 9 rebounds.
Samuel Hoskin was the undoubted star of the show as he recorded game high numbers for points, with 20, and rebounds, with 10, despite being on the losing side. His double-double was complemented by Ghaleb Reda who came in the second
half and finished with 15 points.
The Chinese were never in a spot of bother thanks to the many shortcomings of Lebanon. For one, the Lebanese were extremely inaccurate with their shooting, connecting with only 27.9 percent and were abysmal from downtown as they
made only 2 – of – 21 attempted three-point shots. The game had a semblance of competition in the first two quarters but China just pulled too far away in the third. They walked through a comfortable last quarter to secure a route into the Semi-Finals.
Korea 86 – Japan 67
Korea made short work of Japan in their quarterfinal clash at the Wuhan Sports centre.
The Koreans marched through to the Semi-Finals on the back of their excellent offence and the game ended with a double digit margin at 86 – 67 in their favour.
The Koreans produced a strong team display to undo Japan. They spread the scoring well but a few players still managed to standout. Taejong Moon was the pick of the bunch with a game high 17 points. He also grabbed 6 boards. Ably
assisting him were Sekeun Oh and Seung Jin Ha. Oh contributed 15 points and had 6 rebounds while Ha grabbed 8 boards and recorded 14 points.
The Japanese didn’t really have many bright spots in the game. There was one man though, who gave his all for the cause and was a thorn in Korea’s side for most of the night - Kosuke Takeuchi. Takeuchi was excellent from the field
with 16 points and also had a game high for rebounds with 13.
His efforts though were not enough for Japan who were dominated for most of the game. They had a mini resurgence after the break, especially in the third quarter, but still fell way short of the mark.
