FIBA Asia Championship Sep 19 Review: Iran rout Malaysia; Chinese Taipei edge out Lebanon (Part 1)
Iran 121 – Malaysia 36
In the first game of the day, Iran tore down Malaysia, 121-36 in a one sided contest. The Iranians literally bulldozed the Malaysians with their belligerent assault in the game. Iran played an all-round game and knocked down the
Malaysians in every department.
Hamed Afagh marshalled the Iranian attack with his 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals, during his 27 minutes stay. Team-mate Hamed Haddadi helped the cause with his splendid contribution of 20 points, five rebounds
and one assist.
Guganeswaran Batumalai was the best scorer in the Malaysian squad chipping in with 13 points along with three rebounds and one assist. It took him 23 minutes to deliver these stats for the Malaysians.
Iran took the charge straight away and seized the first quarter in their favour by 34-14. The Malaysians were even more dismal in the second quarter, as they failed to reach the double figure mark in their scoring. Malaysia made
just nine points in comparison to Iran’s 22 at the close of second as team Iran walked into the locker room with a huge lead, 56-23.
Things got from bad to worse in the second half for Malaysia. Iran completing took over the game by the scruff of the neck and restricted the Malaysian to just 13 points in the next twenty minutes to stamp an 85 point win.
Chinese Taipei 60 – Lebanon 58                                                                                      

Chinese Taipei defeated Lebanon, 60-58 after a nail biting encounter on Monday in the FIBA Asia Championship, Final-Eight round. Both teams went almost neck to neck till the very end, where Taipei was able to squeak past Lebanon.
It took Hsin-An Chen 27 minutes to become the best scorer for the winning team. He scored 15 points and clutched five rebounds. Tai Hao Wu also punched 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made two steals too for the Chinese Taipei.
Samuel Hoskin made game-high 19 points and completed his double-double by grasping 11 rebounds for Lebanon, during his 33 minutes stay on the court.
Chinese Taipei were sluggish in the beginning, but they quickly gained pace and tied the scores 11-11 with a 9-3 run before Taipei got past Lebanon with Chen’s two-point shot and closed the frame with a 16-13 lead.
Lebanon, which lost the momentum mid-way in the first period, charged back aggressively in the second. By the time, the first half ended, the scores were tied at 30.
The game picked up even more pace in the third and it was only in the middle of the fourth quarter that Taipei managed to take a lead for good.
