FIBA Asia Championship Sep 19 Review: Japan, Indonesia and
China record wins (Part 3)
Japan 101 – United Arab Emirates 61
Japan continued their unbeaten run in the 26th FIBA Asia Championships on Monday and behind with their second and third quarter assault, steered away to a 101-61 win over the United Arab Emirates.
Tomoo Amino led the Japanese squad form the front with 17 points and five rebounds. From UAE, Khalifa Salem was the top contributor with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Both teams took their time to settle as the first quarter ended with Japan leading UAE by 15-9. Japan got into their groove after that scorched the Arabs with a 41-17 blitz to race to a 56-26 advantage at halftime. The one way
traffic continued in the second half and the Japanese seized the game in their favour by a difference of 40 points.
Indonesia 85 – Bahrain 62
Andi Poedjakesuma’s outstanding 32-point performance enabled Indonesia defeat Bahrain in an 85-62 win on Monday. Besides the 32 points Andi also contributed eight rebounds for the Indonesian team.
From Bahrain, Bader Malabes scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out four assists.
Indonesia was sluggish in the first quarter and failed to find the rhythm throughout the period. Bahrain made the best of the situation and led Indonesia by 17-12 at the end of the first. However, Indonesia came back in the second
quarter, outscoring Bahrain 24-17 to take a 36-34 advantage at the break.
They carried their momentum after the break as well and at the close of the third period, raced away to a 53-45 lead. Indonesia then went for the kill in the final quarter and finished the proceedings with a difference of 23-points.
China 90 – Syria 71
China played dominant basketball throughout the game and registered a 90-71 win in the last game on Monday. Jianlian Yi spearheaded the Chinese squad with his game-high contribution of 19 points and six rebounds.
Ioanis Deeb was the major contributor for the Syrian side with 16 points. Chinese were on their toes right from the first quarter, in which they took a 24-10 lead. The Chinese continued to pound the Syrians and extended their lead
to 47-28 at halftime.
Syria was able to match the Chinese squad in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the first half lead.
