The quadrennial 2010 FIBA World Championships will take place in Turkey at the end of this month. All the players are ready and geared up for the upcoming season. They are looking to make an impressive impact and ultimately win the champion as this is considered to be the World Cup of basketball. Other teams in the Championships fancy their chances as usual favourites, United States of America, has no big names in the squad despite the fact that they have the strongest national basketball structure in the world, NBA. Here we will be looking at some players in the FIBA 2010, who are expected to excel, according to experts.
Ricky Rubio of Spain, at the age of 19 has become of the greatest point guards in the history of the game. This extravagant player was drafted by the Timberwolves in 2009 but didn’t go there and stayed in Europe. Rubio is one player, who can turn the outcome of the match on its head. No matter how strong or weak the opposition, Rubio’s plan is to win with total dominance and determination. His level of commitment to the game is what surprises the experts even though he is such a young player. Experts say his high commitment level is going to take him to new heights and enable him to become the best in the business. 22nd August witnessed him bag seven points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists while he took part in 21 minutes of the game against the USA in an exhibition match. This youngster helped the Spanish squad come up with a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2008 and win a gold medal at the 2009 FIBA European Championship.
Luis Scola, who plays as a forward for the Argentine team, is regarded as one of the best FIBA basketball players. This splendid player has loads of talent that when combined with his skill form a formidable combination like they have in the past. He is one player that always looks to be on the top of his form and that is why this absolutely brilliant player has managed to win MVP of the 2007 and 2009 FIBA Championships. The power forward plays for the Houston Rockets, can bang the ball in the rim, or come up with a soft touch to show the diversity and depth in his game. Not only is this player talented, he comes up with consistent performances. Scola is also a regular player in the Rockets team as he has not missed a single game in his three NBA seasons thus far. The Argentine squad is depending on him as are the fans as Manu Ginobili would not be a part of the team.
The USA team is relatively weak when compared with 2006’s team. Kevin Durant being the face of the team will not only have to perform but will also have to lead the team, increasing the responsibilities on his shoulders. Last season saw him become the scoring champion with an impressive 30.1 points. This splendid player made his way into the All-NBA first team after just his third season in the NBA. Experts say that Durant will have to be one of the best power forwards in the 2010 tournament. Despite the fact that he doesn’t have the supporting cast, experts say that Durant is going to create problems for the opposing teams. Durant is one of the most complete basketball players, his excellent shooting abilities and finishing abilities make him one of the toughest competitors in the tournament.
