FICA speaks out against Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan – Cricket News Update
The Federation of International Cricketers Association has spoken out against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, terming the decision misguided and potentially risky.
“As the peak body of player associations, of which the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) is a full member, FICA considers the matter of player safety as paramount in the consideration of whether any Event or series should proceed,” said
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Brian-Alexander-May-c93981, chief executive of the FICA.
May was particularly critical of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122, whom he claimed appeared to be putting players’ lives at risk in order to further his own political aspirations.
“The actions and words of Mr Kamal certainly give the impression of confirming rumors that there has been a deal reached between Pakistan Cricket Board and Mr Kamal, that PCB will nominate Mr Kamal for the position of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Vice President if Bangladesh agrees
to tour Pakistan,” May observed.
He went on to add that the decision to tour Pakistan should be taken by the whole of the BCB, not just Kamal, and furthermore, ought to be decided as a result of a “concise and transparent process”, instead of the “indecisive and contradictory” statements
being issued by the BCB chief.
The tour was first proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board, in a bid to revive international cricket in the country after the security situation was deemed out of control, following the terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in March 2009.
While Kamal initially agreed to send the team for a tour, and a delegation from the BCB visited Pakistan and approved the security situation, the BCB chief later went back on his words, claiming he would only send the team if the ICC agreed to send neutral
match officials (which the body refused to do).
However, following a statement by the PCB chief Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, who claimed that he would be forced to revise the terms of the PCB’s relation with Bangladesh if they did not tour, Kamal once again agreed to send the team to Pakistan.
The FICA is not the only body with concerns, and recent developments in the case involve a 4-week suspension of the tour having been issued by the Dhaka High Court, which has also ordered Mustafa Kamal to offer a comprehensive justification for the reasons
behind the tour.
