FIFA 11 stories: Pitafi
With well over 20 million competitive matches played between human opponents online and even more matches played against friends in offline modes, FIFA 11 is by far the most played football simulation game on the planet.
Yet, with so many matches played, there have to be the odd few with respect, honour, money and pride on the line. Also, there have to be those few matches which meant more than others, which were more than just two friends playing against each other.
Here is one of those stories, sent in by Pitafi from Manchester in England.
‘I had been preparing for this for quite some time, practising almost day and night. Taking the likes of Stoke City and pitting me against the mighty five star rated Barcelona on Legendary (The toughest)
difficulty.
I had not been the same since that day Bo0mB0om beat me in front of all my friends at my house. I had thrown a party, a FIFA party to be exact to prove my dominance at the game. I was not just a player I was almost a god.
My winning streak had run uninterrupted for five weeks, no team or player could beat my mighty Manchester United squad or my sublime skills.
One of my friends asked if he could bring someone along with him to the party, I told him, ‘Sure, but warn him that I will show no hospitality on the football pitch.’
He laughed, I thought nothing of it then, but now I realise he knew what would happen.
When the tournament began, an 8 team League system, followed by the top 4 teams advancing to the knock out stages, I showed everyone just why I was the best. Winning by score lines which read 4-0, 5-0 and even 8-0, the poor sap chose Arsenal as his team,
I was on fire. I even managed to beat the newcomer by 2 goals to 1 but it did not feel right.
Topping the table and taunting those below me with the usual, ‘you only lost cause
(John) Terry was too distracted by all his team-mates WAGs in the stands.’ True, it is a little old and out of date, but it still gets the job done.
I reached the final after breezing through my friend who had taken Barcelona by four goals to nil. He thought he could beat my tactics with higher player statistics and pace. Ha!
The final itself though, was a different affair. It seems that the ‘friend’ had been holding back earlier on as he...I’m afraid to say it...dominated me. Beating, no, crushing me 5-0.
I was in shock, I was devastated, how could this happen? He had taken Liverpool of all teams.
All my friends laughed at me and mocked me after that, in my house. I felt a tear forming on the corner of my eye. I had lost in FIFA 11 against a ‘nobody’.
After the party, I decided I would have my revenge and began practicing non-stop. When I felt I was ready, I called my friend and asked him to come over with the person who beat me.
I played my heart out but still lost by the same score line, but how? A few rematches later and I gave up. I just could not beat him.
So, I asked him what his secret was, he said there was none. He was not giving up his secret so I pressed him and asked again. He responded, ‘listen relax, there is no secret I just play online every chance I get.’
It was no use, I had lost, and I had played online as well, but never had such a hard time.
That was the day I traded in my copy of FIFA 11 and swore never to play the game ever again.
So I picked up a copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, pre-ordered FIFA 12 and walked out the door.’
