In a bout of never before seen honesty by the company, EA admit that they “need to pay the bills” as well as deliver an entertaining gaming experience for fans. We all knew it, but thank you EA for actually saying it.
It seems that being branded the worst company to work for has hit EA hard as they look to set their reputation straight and present themselves in a more positive light. EA have taken the first step by admitting that although they want to make money from the upcoming FIFA 12 expansion, they also want to enhance the experience that the football simulation title provides.
FIFA 12 raised the benchmark when it comes to football simulation titles and holds the current record as the best-selling sports title in EA’s history. It is also one amazing football game.
Explaining EA’s position was Sebastian Enrique, the game’s lead producer. He said, “Every game company, or most of them, are companies that are there to make profit. We (EA) are there, or at least my team and I are, for two reasons. One of those, and this is very important, is to make entertainment, to make great games and football simulations that people can enjoy.”
Before coming to the flip side of the equation, “On the other side, we also need to pay the bills, and the way to do that is to make money for the company, so it’s not milking, it’s just that we have a repeatable product.”
He also pointed out that it was much more convenient for those who already owned FIFA 12 to simply get an expansion instead of spending on a full-priced retail edition as was the case in the past. EA would release games, at full price, of international competitions, which many gamers who already owned a copy of the core FIFA series felt aggrieved by.
For them, they had to spend twice the money to get, what was basically; an expansion pack and that segment of football fans will surely appreciated the way EA are handling Euro 2012. As for those who do not own a copy of FIFA 12 yet, well, shame on you.
