FIFA 12 sells 3.2-million units in opening week, sets new record for EA Sports
Electronic Arts have revealed that their latest instalment in the long running and hugely successful football simulation series, FIFA 12, has set a new record for opening week’s sales for any EA Sports title in history. Speaking like a proud parent, EA announced
that FIFA 12 managed to sell almost a quarter more copies than its predecessor, FIFA 11.
Placing the figure at 3.2-million, or 3,200,000 for readers who want to see how big a figure that actually is, copies sold; the game had the third largest release week in United Kingdom. The top release weeks went to Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 2, respectively.
EA Sports was busy sharing statistics of FIFA 12’s success with the world after it posted a flurry of facts about the game on, the popular social networking site, Twitter. Stating that over 3.2-million units were sold and that over two hundred million (200,000,000)
minutes of FIFA 12 action had already taken place in the first seven days of action, EA Sports were in a boastful mood.
However, the game itself is solid enough an experience to back up the astronomical sales figures, as virtually everyone in the gaming community seem to agree that the game is the best in the FIFA series ever! With average ratings and scores above the 90%
mark, no one can argue as it is more than any other sports game designed for the year.
What makes the figures even more impressive is that the developers of the game ventured out of the comfort zone of the tried and tested FIFA formula and made some drastic changes to the gameplay.
Tactical defending was introduced which added a level of skill for defending against opposition attacks and the Physicality Engine has added a whole new level of realism to the genre, which was slowly gaining a reputation for becoming a re-pack of the same
game.
Executive Vice President of EA Sports congratulated the studio behind the game and also explained the ethos of the game and what they had hoped to achieve when he said, “FIFA 12 is a stunning achievement by our team at EA Canada. The massive FIFA online
community has overwhelmingly connected to the new lie services in the game, including EA Sports Football Club, and we intend to keep them engaged all season long as FIFA 12 follows the heartbeat of the football season.”
With the holiday season just around the corner and the football, or soccer as it is called across the Atlantic Ocean, just a few weeks old, game sales can expect to stay strong for a few more months at least.
