FIFA 12 to get two sets of commentators as former Arsenal striker, Alan Smith joins the team
Electronic Arts, one of the gaming industry’s largest developers and publishers, seem to be pushing the boundaries of their award winning and multimillion dollar FIFA franchise by adding a host of new gameplay mechanics and features. One of which is introducing
a brand new concept of having two sets of commentators.
While the previous iterations in the long running FIFA franchise were great with just one or two commentators, FIFA 12 is to set a new benchmark, not just in the football gaming world, but in every sports title that is looking to bring a truly authentic
experience.
It seems like EA Sports are putting in a genuine effort on the presentation side of things, as although the commentary in previous games held its own, it did tend to get stagnant and monotonous after a run of matches.
To avoid that, EA have, as mentioned earlier, now have two sets of in-game commentators with veteran Martin Tyler, reprising his role, but this time round with Alan Smith, instead of Andy Gray. The other pair of commentators are confirmed to be Clive Tyldesley
and Andy Townsend, both of whom are well respected in their field and will be covering the cup ties, while the former will be covering league encounters.
For those not familiar with Alan Smith, the player-turned-pundit is a former Arsenal and Leicester City striker who has an impressive goal scoring record to his name. Scoring an impressive 76 goals for Leicester and another 86 for Arsenal, the forward had
162 goals to his name in 465 appearances before he eventually retired.
Life after his playing days has not curbed his enthusiasm for the game, as he continues to involve himself in the game. Having been chosen to commentate alongside Martin Tyler in FIFA 12 is surely a feather that Smith will wear proudly on his cap.
Speaking on the chemistry and partnership the two have, Smith had this to say, "The natural chemistry that Martin and I have developed working live matches for TV has transferred very well to the virtual broadcast booth. I'm really looking forward to FIFA
fans hearing our work this fall as we bring all the match day emotion and excitement to this year's game."
Smith was not the only one excited about the pairing, as FIFA’s Senior Producer, David Rutter also commented, "Alan will bring a fresh, new perspective and insight to FIFA Soccer 12, working alongside the trusted and well-known voice of Martin Tyler. As
one of the top-tier broadcasters in the UK, he brings enormous knowledge and expert analysis to the game so that we can deliver the most authentic
FIFA experience this year."
Whether or not the ambitious move will pay off, no one knows, but the news is welcome among gaming fans as they wait for the game’s release, which is set for later this year.
