FIFA 2010: One of the best matches, Germany against Uruguay

This World Cup has been one of the lowest scoring world cups in the history of football. The biggest event of the year did not capture the news as one of the most exciting events. Everybody seemed a little disappointed because of controversies and issues in the tournament. On one hand, people seemed a bit careless about the World Cup but on the other hand, the event got exciting and interesting .The German Octopus Paul made it more exciting with its predictions about his home team and major matches.

All of Paul’s World Cup predictions were 100 % correct.

The match for the third spot in the tournament was between Germany and Uruguay. The best match of the World Cup was played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Paul the “psychic” Octopus chose Germany as the third spot winners over Uruguay. The Paul’s prediction was confirmed when the Germans thrashed Uruguay to win the third spot in the World Cup.

While talking about the match between Germany and Uruguay there is no doubt it was probably the best match of the tournament. Both of the teams fought like never before. It was their last chance to exit South Africa with success. The reason why it was the best match is that the teams gave 100% till the last minute. Both teams made the match worth watching. The way Germany and Uruguay played, seemed like a final. Both of the teams were well aware of the fact that it was their last chance to regain lost pride.

Germany has already battled for the third spot 4-times before and it was the third time for Uruguay to play for the third spot in a World Cup. Germany fought against France in 1958, against Portugal in 2006, against Austria in 1934 and with Uruguay in Mexico in 1970 World Cup before this. On the other hand Uruguay has played for the third spot in Switzerland 1954 against Austria and against West Germany in Mexico in the year 1970.

Unlike 1970, this time Uruguay had a stronger chance of winning the match as Germany had a younger side as compared to the experienced and skilful Uruguay. It was a very close match. It was not easy for the Germans to penetrate the Uruguay’s remarkable defence. They played impressively and kept their focus and grabbed the victory after a furious battle. It was one of the high scoring matches of the tournament.

Both sides scored a total of five goals.  Two by Uruguay and three goals were scored by the victorious German side. In the 19th minute of the first half Thomas Muller of Germany scored the first goal.  Edinson Cavani scored an equalizer in the 28th minute of the first half and proved the Uruguay’s toughness clearly. Each team scored one goal in the first half.  The second half started with brutal attacks and a test for the defenders on both teams. In the 51st minute of the second half Uruguay’s Diego Forlan scored another goal for his team and gave a strong blow to the Germans. But the Germans came back in the game with a bang in the 56th minute, when Germany’s Marcell Jansen levelled the score 2-2. In the 82nd minute German Player Sami Khedira scored the goal for Germany and confirmed its lead which led the Germans to victory.

It was a match worth watching and the Germans proved to be the stronger team despite of their younger side. They showed the world that they are one of the best and most difficult sides to play against.
