FIFA 2010 World Cup: Brazil, Argentina, Germany, England, faults and failiures
Eyes are wide-open, throats are sore as the favourites are no more in the biggest event of the year. Yes we are talking about the football World Cup being held in South Africa. Without any doubt this World Cup has come up with jaw dropping and eye opening twists and surprises. Bowing out of the football giant countries puts a question mark and controversies over the characters and winning spirits of the eliminated teams.
From the beginning of the tournament it has been clear that this World Cup is one of the least scoring World Cups in the history of football and lesser goals in the game automatically turns an interesting match a bit boring and less interesting. But this is not the only surprise of the current tournament. The elimination of World Cup favourites is a nerve wrecking, depressing situation for millions of fans of football around the world. Every mind is full of questions regarding the performance of super stars and best teams in the world.
Teams like Brazil and Argentina didn’t make it to the semi finals of the World Cup. Not only Argentina, the case of Italy and football giants France is even worse as they got out of the tournament in the first round. It seems like both the teams were in a hurry and were suffering from home sickness. England had a better chance but they were not good enough to beat the German giants in the pre-quarter final round.
Not only the teams but the super star players and eye candy to millions were unable to play at their best as well. Best footballers from the world, like Wayne Rooney from England, Lionel Messi from Argentina, Kaka of Brazil, Ronaldo from Portugal, seemed a little nervous and out of touch. These young guns were not able to score. Not even were they able to dodge the ball perfectly. Now that the hopes for these teams and players is over for the tournament they are about to face questions. Questions such as what went wrong for them? Did over confidence make them suffer or were they a bit too nervous? Should teams inspect and resolve their strategy? Why and how did they flop besides having tons of talent and technique?
Talking about strategy, it is undoubtedly the most important aspect which needs to be focused on in the game of football. It is only team work that lets you win a game and a strategy is perfect when all departments are focused and worked equally during a match. This is the main point at which they lacked interest and skill in the World Cup.
The English team’s attack seemed perfect as Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch had good chemistry, with the fantastic Frank Lampard, and, Steven Gerard but England’s defence strategy totally nullified their attacking capability. Same is the case with France and Italy. They were unable to find a balance between their attack and defence and that made them suffer.
The only team that came out with a constructive start and played well till to the semi finals of the World Cup is the German team. It was not full of big names but they were able to find a perfect momentum.
Now the stage is all set for the Finals of the tournament and the crowd is ready to see the best football team in the World.
