FIFA 2010 World Cup: German player Khedira impressing the English Premier League
The Germans have definitely impressed everyone and caught everyone’s eye at this year’s World Cup and Sami Khedira is no exception. He stands out for his performance and has played really well by contributing a major part in helping the Germans to the semi finals.
The Stuttgart midfielder told that he will make sure that his team will proceed to the semi finals by defeating the Spanish team. The German team has so far had an outstanding World Cup campaign and one could partly thank to Paul their psychic octopus but nevertheless no credit can be taken away from the well organized German team.
They opened their account in the World Cup in South Africa with a 4-0 thrashing of Australia which was followed by their only 1-0 defeat against the heavily defensive Serbian side. They then proceeded against Ghana with a 1-0 victory. The Black Stars also went to the last 16 stage beating USA and then in the quarter final stage they were up against Uruguay, eventually losing the controversial match.
Khedira has attracted a lot of interest and attention from almost all of Europe's top notch clubs, with a lot of it coming from the Premiership. Manchester United and Chelsea look like the two main clubs heading for the list to add the German international Sami to their team.
Sami Khedira could be snatched up with a figure of something around £12 million, but that price will definitely be inflated due to the huge interest. Also another positive performance in the semi final will be a major determining factor.
Sami Khedira is partly of Tunisian descent, he has appeared thirty times in German youth teams and he captained Germany in the UEFA European Under-twenty one Football Championship in 2009 that Germany won. He made his debut in September 2009 in a friendly against South Africa where he was actually substituted in the 73rd minute for Simon Rolfes.
Sami Khedira joined the youth team of VfB Stuttgart in 1995 and is still contracted with them till the summer of 2011. Also Sami's younger brother plays for the youth ranks of VfB Stuttgart. He also happens to be a part of the German Under-15 team.
As Paul Scholes is in his last stretch, Ferguson will definitely be looking for a replacement, and Sami has shown somewhat great resilience for Germany while playing in the mid field and there is no doubt that Fergie will have his scouts on him.
Scholes was a major instrument in Manchester United's attempt to defend the title and although they failed in doing so, Scholes's presence was a major contribution.
Many say that it will be very hard to fill the gap Scholes would leave, but we look ahead then. Sami Khedira could grow with time as a great player and an asset to the team for whichever team may it be; Chelsea, Manchester United or any other that signs him.
Another major issue for Scholes is that his contract will only expire after the end of the next season and with so many people showing interest in him Stuttgart cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer. All he could do now will be to make money on him with the transfer.
