FIFA 2010 World Cup: Germany vs. Ghana Match Preview

The Germans are going to face Ghana in their last match in the group stages of South Africa 2010. The Germans made an impressive start by smashing Australia with a 4-0 win. On the other hand, Ghana has been at its best as well. The team was lucky against Australia. The socceroos had scored the first goal in the 11th minute of the match. However, Ghana clawed their way back into the match after winning a penalty. Moreover, they even got lucky against the mighty defence of Serbia. They got a penalty against them as well and Gyan made no mistake and scored. Due to that win over Serbia, Ghana has topped Group D and is looking pretty good at that position with 4 points.

On the other hand, the Germans made the best start they could. They won against Australia pretty easily. They showed the world that they were the ones to look out for in South Africa 2010. They showed great team chemistry; especially the goal scored by Klose had a touch of class. It was a perfect ball delivered from the right wing to Klose’s head, which is his favourite department; and he headed the ball into the net very easily.

Team Ghana is planning to end the Germans hopes, similar to how they were treated by Serbia. The Germans lost to Serbia due to the red card that Klose received. This is the reason why he is not going to be on the field today along with his team mates against Ghana. Klose is a big loss to Germany as he is a key player for the team in the forward mix. He has helped Germany win a plethora of games with his fabulous technique; inside and outside the box. His heading capabilities have improved with time and this is the reason why he has scored most of his goals with his head. His absence would be felt on the pitch, since the Germans would have to find a good replacement for him.

Germans were totally unlucky in their last game against Serbia, when they could not penetrate through the defensive walls of the Serbians. Vidic and Ivanovic stood guard and did not let Pudolscky, Klose or even Mulner score any goal. Later, when Klose was red carded, Serbians took advantage of an extra-player and scored a late goal to end the match with a 1-0 win over Germany.

Due to Germany’s loss against Serbia, Germany has to win against Ghana to qualify for the Round of 16 in South Africa 2010. On the other hand, the lucky Ghana side is looking to at least draw or at best win over Germany, who are South Africa 2010 favourites, so that they can qualify for the next round.

On the other end, Serbia is taking on Australia and if the Serbians pull off a victory over Australia, they might have a chance to qualify for the next round, if and only if Ghana loses. Serbians have been pretty impressive in the defence and it has been seen how hard it is to penetrate their defensive wall, consisting of the English League stars Vidic and Ivanovic.

Unlucky Germany against Lucky Ghana will face each other today in the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. The match is going to be filled with excitement because of the fact that this particular match can affect the entire group. If Ghana pulls off a lucky upset against the Germans, it can be one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. The reason is that Germany is considered to be one of the favourite teams to qualify from this group. On the other hand, if Germany defeats Ghana, they will confirm their slot in the next round and put Ghana in with a chance. Serbia on the other hand battles against Australia for their spot as well.

This match does not only put an end to this Group, but is also very important for the three countries respectively. None of the teams can afford to lose and will battle it out in the field to confirm a slot in the next round. Germany, being the favourites as they are, will give their best in this match, which is going to make this match even more exciting.
