FIFA 2010 World Cup: Key players in the Germany and Argentina encounter
This time over the competition will be between the rising 21 year old star from Germany Mesut Özil and 23 year old legend in making Lionel Messi. Özil has been out classing everyone he has encountered in the midfield as well as the forward position. Messi on the other has had tremendous efforts in scoring a goal but has been unsuccessful though he still has played a large part in assisting the goals for his team.
The match will not be just considered as a match between Germany and Argentina it will be a match between Europe and South America as the dominant powerhouses of the continents collide.
With that idea out there is of course a list of players that all fans will be looking forward to seeing them perform and drop their jaws with astonishing skills and talent. Here is a list of the top 5 of them.
Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina)
If you need a guy at the right place and at the right time, this would be him. He not only has the ability to score goals on demand and produce high quality assists for the team but he has the unique talent of being the perfect opportunist.
Playing for Real Madrid he has produced 27 goals in 32 appearances becoming the 2nd highest goal scorer in the tournament. With his help the club came to a close 2nd in the league to Barcelona.
He also helped Argentina in qualifying to the final stages of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. With that the star proved he is ready for the international field so far having an astonishing 6 goals in 8 appearances.
Messi and Higuain have accomplished themselves as quite a team with one on the wing and one in the box. What will be important for both the Bernabeu player and the Barcelona player is to show the same class against Germany.
Javier Mascherano (Argentina)
Mascherano, the skipper of the Argentinean Armada has control over the midfield. Even though the Liverpool star is just 26 years old he is known for his leadership qualities and that is the same reason why Mascherano was made captain of the team.
In the game against Germany there will be a fierce contest in the midfield. The German midfield is very strong as their veteran forwards come into help the new and amazing talents of Özil and Sami Khedira.
Mascherano is a keen defender too and that gives the Argentinean team great advantage as their defence is not as strong as their opponents. Adding to that he passes impeccably to his partners in the offence.
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
You cannot really tell the reason behind Messi, the goal scoring machine’s absence from the score sheet in South Africa. Maybe it is the amount of pressure from the team, maybe his game play has deteriorated at his new position or even maybe he has been just unfortunate.
Nevertheless one thing is for sure his starring performance for his team has not changed. If he has not been able to score he has been sure of the plays to be made in the midfield and how to assist the strikers for the goals.
Learning under the wings of the Argentinean God and the nations football coach Diego Maradona, there is bound to be some pressure on him. Playing for Barcelona he topped the scoring sheet in La Liga with 34 goals in 35 appearances.
Still he has not been up to his usual starry standards in the World Cup.
For Argentina he is the man who can change the situation of the game in a single stroke of brilliance.
Miroslav Klose (Germany)
Klose is the Bayern Munich striker who happens to be one of the worst nightmares for all goal keepers in the world. Though the star did not have a great season at Bundesliga he surprisingly is on his usual star performance as always in the World Cup.
The Maestro striker is a bigger threat for the defenders, as with his long legs he gains distance in humongous strides while placing his feet in the perfect position to finish with finesse.
His amazing performance internationally has helped him score 12 goals in 3 World Cups. Klose is performing and has to perform the important role of binding the young and the veteran of the squad together to produce the perfect team chemistry. That is extremely essential for Germany if they want to win the World Cup.
Mesut Özil (Germany)
Özil is the new sensation in the German team. He has diminished the absence of their injured skipper Michael Ballack greatly and is hoped to do the same for Germany in future. With his current performance this young man has surely guaranteed a spot for himself in the German team and top notch football clubs.
His ability of deep insight in the midfield at such a young age is amazing to witness; especially his defender splitting passes continue to amaze every person who witnesses his miracles.
He will be the pivot in the midfield for Germany against Argentina and similarly the Germans are banking quite a lot on this new German prodigy.
