FIFA 2010 World Cup: Ramos wants Cole and Gerrard to unite at Real Madrid

The star defender from Real Madrid Sergio Ramos has stated that he is sure that Ashley Cole of Chelsea and Steven Gerrard from Liverpool will be running with him in the fields of Bernabeu before this summer ends.

Real Madrid has had fierce competition with Barcelona last season in La Liga and came in to a close second for the title race while they had another disappointing early exit from the champions League. Their quest to fill their recently empty trophy cabinet with silverware has yet to be fulfilled.

Now that Jose Mourinho has entered into Real Madrid from Inter Milan he is certainly eager to change that fact. He led the Inter Milan team to a treble win with a victory of the Champions League title.

Los Merengues were bidding on nearly every good player this time and indeed Mourinho had laid out a massive list to reinvent the squad. They have already signed in the Argentinean winger Angel Di Maria to fulfil their desire but still a long list remains that includes Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, simply and the cream from all big teams.

The Blue’s defender Cole has played under the management of Jose Mourinho before and when he managed at Chelsea and it is common knowledge that Mourinho has wanted the Red’s captain since he saw him play for Liverpool.

While the rumours on Gerrard’s transfer for Real Madrid were quite strong and it is believed that he will depart from Anfield at last, Cole on the other hand is much more attached to Chelsea and isn’t really in need for a move. Ramos however believes that it will benefit both English players to arrive at Bernabeu.

While talking to media the Ramos told, “We are a club that is always looking to improve by adding the best players in the world. We have a proven record of signing English players - with David (Beckham) and Michael (Owen) - and it would not surprise me at all if our two new arrivals this summer were English. Ashley Cole is a terrific player”.

He told that he admired the style of play of Cole and the combination he made with Drogba, he commented, “For me, he is by far the best left-back in the world and, along with (Didier) Drogba, Chelsea's best player. I am sure Chelsea will do all they can to keep him but he had a difficult year in England”.

He also exclaimed that both players actually needed a change. He also stated that when a player as good as them were not playing for Real Madrid they actually were wasting their time on the planet.

Regarding Cole’s career he explained that Cole had played from his heart for England, Arsenal and Chelsea and it was now time for him to arrive in Real Madrid and win the Spanish League along with his former coach Jose Mourinho.

He further went on to say that the star would in fact be at an advantage despite his club’s win at the English Premier League. He stated that Jose Mourinho will know all about him and he would be like an old friend. He also elucidated that the Portuguese coach Mourinho had a habit of signing players from his former clubs and the players never regretted it and had a lovely time under him.

Ramos admired Cole’s talent admitting, “I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo about him, and he told me Cole is the toughest defender he has ever played against. That's quite a compliment coming from the world's best player and he is exactly the sort of player we want”.

On the Gerrard issue Ramos told that everyone knows that he is the man Real Madrid is after, he said, “I think Madrid's admiration of Steven Gerrard is not a secret. He is at the point now where he needs to win things. I can guarantee that under this Real Madrid set-up he will win things”. He added that with, “I really think both of them are Real Madrid-bound”.
