FIFA 2010 World Cup Special Report: “The Reign of Spain”
The party in the squares of Madrid will be one to remember. As the La Furia Roja lands the Spanish fans have planned a party that will start in the night and head out for days. It will vanish all worries of loans to be acquired from IMF to stimulate their economy and dissolve the sparking mutinies on the far side of their borders and in return well up a feeling of new unity and confidence. What seems like a victory in a sporting event will prove a lot more to them.
Now the Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque and his men are soon to land in Spain where just because of the security the players will be able to land on a tarmac that hasn’t been occupied by fans. It wouldn’t be hard to admit that at the moment Spain would be the happiest country in the world.
Sources have revealed that after the landing of the players they will be taken to their special reception after which they will meet the royal family and the President of the country. After that the celebration with fans would start when the team would travel around in an open bus around the city.
Eventually the march will come to stop at Puente del Rey where the plans for the after party will take place. The place would be crowded like it was two years before; when the Spanish team won the European Championship in 2008.
The captain of Spain Iker Casillas has expressed that it would take some time for him and his team mates to realize what he and his team mates have achieved at Sunday night in Soccer City Stadium.
The time has finally fallen upon when Vicente del Bosque and his squad of the “fantastic generation” have finally proven that they have evolved from their underachieving stage. The winner of the match came late in the last minutes of the extra time when Andres Iniesta produced a goal that decided the fate as 1-0.
The legendary shot stopper expressed, “It's a historic moment for Spanish football. This achievement is something that we, the players, are still not aware of, what the significance really is. I think it's something we will only realise over time”.
The 29 year old Spanish captain who plays for real Madrid also got himself the Golden Glove award. He has 111 appearances for Spain and during the match made two crucial saves encountering the Dutch gun Arjen Robben.
He hailed the team's overall display at the finals, rating it even higher than the Euro.
Casillas stated, “It's what we have dreamt of since we were children. It is truly a special time and certainly a much happier moment than when we won the European championships. We are now the World Champions”.
In the end one of the major reasons for the loss by Netherlands was that they didn’t capitalize on their available chances. The Manchester City player Nigel de Jong explained, “It was a close game from both sides. We both created some very good chances and both knew that if they'd score first then they would win the game. So I think it was really balanced. Spain really has a good team, but so do we. As I said we created a lot of chances and you have to take your chances; that's all”.
The captain of Arsenal Cesc Fabregas claimed that this new “Reign of Spain” will definitely be remembered in time and prove to be a new era in football. Fabregas was the man who assisted Andres Iniesta in producing the goal that made the difference.
He told that though he was a bit frustrated at being the substitute it didn’t matter much now as Spain had won the World Cup. He commented, “This is an historic moment for Spain and it may never be repeated”. He also appreciated the fans appraisingly, “The fans have fantastic, the rock on which we base everything and I hope in two years' time we will have more joy at the Euros”.
Iniesta blamed the poor approach of the Dutch coach that lead to the goal. He exclaimed, “I had the opportunity to score that goal which was so important for my team, and it's incredible. I've made a small contribution in a very tough game, a very rough game - there were all sorts of things happening on the pitch.
He then added, “The manner in which it happened, we gave everything, to win the World Cup there are no words to describe it”. He dedicated his goal to Dani Jarque who was a Spanish player that died because of a heart attack in August. After the goal he took off his shirt and the vest below showed his message, “Dani Jarque is always with us”.
The Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque exuberantly told that he was looking forward to the welcome back home and didn’t comment on the mistakes made by both teams. He commented, “First of all I should congratulate our opponents. They made it very difficult for us to play comfortably. It's been a very intense match, and congratulations to them.
He expressed that the turning around was the introduction of Fabregas. He explained that when he came on, Spain began to have control of the game and the ball. He stated that though there were much more chances created for Fabregas, David Villa and Iniesta, they weren’t able to utilize them all and had they been able to do that they would have had more goals, which we could have converted, but that's the way football goes".
He ended on this note, “The dressing room is delighted, ecstatic. But Spain, the country, deserves this triumph, this World Cup. This goes beyond sport. We have to celebrate. All the people have been behind us in Spain, and we're delighted to reward them with this victory”.
