FIFA 2010 World Cup: Will the Golden Ball finalist come from the final? Villa or Sneijder?
There have been many fantastic players in this year’s World Cup who have taken to the pitch in South Africa.
From Mesut Ozil, Diego Forlan to Gonzalo, players from different corner of the world have made great impacts on this World Cup.
However, there are two players that stand out from the rest and have gone further than everyone else and these players are David Villa and Wesley Sneijder.
Villa and Sneijder both have scored five goals in this World Cup, and both of them have been the core force that has been driving their teams to the World Cup finals.
Spain and Netherlands face each other in the World Cup finals, and here are a few reasons on who should win the Golden Ball Cup this year.
Wesley Sneijder
The Dutch playmaker, Wesley Sneijder has had a great year as he has already won the Champions League, the Coppa Italia for Inter Milan before making the World Cup final and Series A.
Sneijder has proved to the world audience that he is one of the greatest footballers in the world, and what still amazes most is that he has only continued to get better in this World Cup.
Sneijder netted five goals, out of which three of the goals were goals that decided the fate of the match, with the other two being the tying goals against the opposing teams; against Brazil in the quarterfinals and the last was the go ahead goal against Uruguay in the semis finals.
Sneijder has matured, from his old days where he was known to completely break and destroy locker rooms. He has now changed so much and is being called a major attribute to why the Dutch have made it this far this year.
Experts say that Wesley Sneijder has played one of the greatest years of his career this year and he is close to the dream that all footballers have if Netherland wins its First Ever World Cup.
David Villa
Villa just got a rather large fortune move to Barcelona right before the World Cup started, and this definitely did raise the bar for David Villa to have a great tournament.
In addition, to be fair, the Spaniard has really performed to the mark. He scored goals against Paraguay, Portugal, and Chile, with the final two goals being the only goals of those specific matches.
Whenever Spain was in a need of a big play or a goal, Villa was the man with the plan every time in this World Cup. Most are calling this as Villa’s greatest international performance ever in South Africa.
Above all else, Villa is only a single goal away from tying with Raul for most goals ever scored for Spain with 44, and Villa could do that before the World Cup is over.
And the Rightful Winner of the Golden Ball Should Be...
Even though David Villa has done a lot, still Wesley Sneijder deserves to win the Golden Ball.
No one can deny the facts and they are that Snejider is only a midfielder and still has netted the ball five times in this World Cup and has a same number of goals as David Villa with the highest position and this is an incredible accomplishment.
However, keeping in mind that Sneijder has scored four out of the five goals in the knockout stages plus he has had a brace against Brazil, and he has also had a brace against Brazil even when the chances for Netherlands looked very dim. Therefore, there is no doubt that the Golden Ball Cup should go to Sneijder.
Nevertheless, there is still hope for the Spanish. The last three winners of the Golden Ball were, Zinedine Zidane 2006, Oliver Kahn 2002 and Cristiano Ronaldo 1998.
