FIFA 2010 World Cup: Xavi ready for Germany, hails ‘Fantastic Generation’
It seems that the underachievers are finally achieving. For a long long time Spain, a country on the Iberian peninsula, a place in which resides one of the greatest powerhouses of football on earth have failed to meet the standards they are so capable of.
They have a squad that is world recognized with almost all of their players playing in some major clubs. A squad that has players like the Arsenal skipper and midfielder Cesc Fabregas coming in as a substitute. A team that is so talented that if all of their players are together they will probably sum up for Spain as the most expensive team.
Their team stars the best in field with an offence as dangerous as David Villa and Fernando Torres, a midfield full of experience and skill with Xavi and Iniesta and in the defence stand the impregnable Puyol and Sergio Ramos. Then they have the advantage of the world class goal keeper Iker Casillas who also happens to be their beloved captain.
So far the Spanish team has been having a great trip in South Africa. While they have been a bit dry in the goal scoring department as they should have scored a lot more goals when you compare their outstanding line up to other teams. But nevertheless they have always been able to create the necessary goals to lead them to the next rounds.
They have been defeated in just one match, and that was against the hardened defence of the Swiss team. The Swiss team also has a record of not conceding a goal in a little above 550 minutes. Their clean sheet was eventually broken by the Chilean team. In that match Chile defeated the Swiss team 1-0.
The Spanish team also made a record in winning all of their qualification matches; producing a ten out of ten. In this FIFA World Cup, they have already made history for the country as they have never before won a quarterfinal match. This is the best chance yet for the emerging ‘Golden Generation’ of Spain to come up to the podium to claim their deserved glory.
The Spanish maestro Xavier Hernandez has expressed that this is one of the best opportunities for Spain to step up and claim their prize. Xavi also stated that their contenders in the semi final were an exceptionally talented and skilled team and to defeat them won’t be easy. He added that the absence of Thomas Muller from the team would be a great advantage for the Spanish side and they will try to exploit the situation to their advantage.
The shot caller from Barcelona exclaimed that the past achievements made by Spain were nothing in comparison to the ones made by the current ‘fantastic generation’. He said that La Furia Roja had all the tools needed to carve history what was left was to carve it.
Regarding the German team, he appreciated them on their game play stating, “Germany is refreshed, more talented, especially in the midfield. They are less physical and more talented. Muller does not play and that's good because he is in excellent form. (Sami) Khedira, (Bastian) Schwensteiger are doing an outstanding job, as are (Mesut) Ozil, (Lukas) Podolski, and (Miroslav) Klose.... they have goals in them”.
Talking about strategies he explained, “They're a team that we can come good against because they like having the ball and will leave more space than Paraguay. They do well on the counterattack and get plenty of cover from the wings”.
As far as the matter, of history making is concerned, Xavi has said they already made some and are ready for more, “We have already made history, but we are not settling for that, we need to reach the finals and win. We have a fantastic generation to achieve this and we will play to our strengths and give everything. The important thing is to score and we should take advantage of (David) Villa's form”.
