FIFA 2010 World Cup quarter finals : Brazil injury report striker Elano may not play against holland
Bad news seems to be following Brazil now as they face a couple of injuries and some injury scares. So far, they have had a tremendous World Cup campaign with good solid wins and no fitness problems. Now it seems that they might finally succumb to this factor.
It seems that Elano, the star attacking mid fielder will not be playing for Brazil in the World Cup quarterfinal match against the Netherlands because of an injury sustained on his right ankle.
The Brazilian doctor, Jose Luis Runco told that Elano may just be in condition to play by next week but it is possible that he could miss the rest of the World Cup. He optimistically added that Elano was a resilient player and he was sure he would make a comeback.
The doctor went on to say that, Elano is under intensive treatment which can take days, weeks or perhaps even months and there is no timetable for that. He also expressed that every day a new evaluation is made and that nature just has to be on their side if Elano wants to get back on the field early.
Jose Luis Runco informed everyone that Elano has a bruised bone which will not allow him to practice with the rest of the player’s at least till Friday. He explained that the injury sustained such that Elano himself can only justify when he will be ready to train and compete in the match so ultimately it all depends on the individual’s recovery rate.
Elano has scored a goal in each of Brazil's first two matches and was also practicing with the team till Tuesday but was forced to leave due to his ankle.
Elano stated that it was a magnificent start as he scored in both the starting matches, he also said that he was disappointed because of his injury but remains positive and is in high hopes that he will be able to play in the next match and that all he can do right now is to try to be patient.
Elano sustained the injury in the 67th minute by a hard tackle in the match against Ivory Coast; this was Brazil’s second match in the World Cup group stages. The doctors originally claimed that the injury was not that serious but Elano did not recover in time for Brazil’s match against Chile and Portugal.
Elano also commented on the referees by saying that he hoped that now they could start doing more to protect players from violent plays. Referees have been a constant issue this World Cup and now that the controversies created by them are raging, FIFA has taken punishment actions against them.
Elano said that he does not like to complain but there is a definite need for violence of this type to be analyzed. He continued by saying that people use videos to check if it was a goal or not but Elano wants to use them to check for fouls even.
Elano earlier relayed that the style in which Ismael Tiote tackled him the injury he sustained could be far more dangerous. Elano went as far as saying that if he had his foot planted then Tiote would have broken his leg.
Elano expressed the way that Ismael Tiote the Ivory Coast midfielder tackled him; his injury could've been even more serious.
Stephane Lannoy the French referee did not even call a foul in this play. Elano has played 46 matches and scored nine goals for Brazil.
Elano is a regular on Dungas team since 2006 and now Dunga may also be out with even his second mid fielder. Felipe Melo, who has sustained a left ankle injury in the match against Portugal and due to that injury he did not play against Chile.
Now that they face Netherlands with a couple players still in doubt if they will play in the match, they will have to proceed with a cautious strategy in which their stars will have to show the reason for their stardom.
