FIFA 2018, 2022 World Cup bids: Pros and Cons
All the desiring nations today present their respective bids to host the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. In Zurich, from David Beckham to Andrei Arshavin to Nicole Kidman, these international celebrities were in form to put forward their stamps on what is
expected to be a fantastic bidding war that is anticipated to go down right to the wire. Today in Zurich, Spain/Portugal alongside Netherlands/Belgium, England, Russia etc stepped up to give their presentations to the executive committee of FIFA.
The presentations were aimed at convincing the members of FIFA’s prestigious executive council to vote for the respective bids. The favourites at this moment in time for the 2018 bid are Spain/Portugal, the joint Iberian bid holds more water than its competitors
due to certain factors that have clearly come to the fore front in recent weeks. The strongest aspect of the Iberian bid is their tourism factor. Both the host nations are already well renowned for their tourist resorts and extensive hotels, something that
other bids such as England’s do not possess.
On the other hand, the second favourites in running for the 2018 host nation are none other than England. The English bid is backed by the Prime Minister David Cameron, David Beckham and Prince William. Not only that, England’s plan during their presentation
was to appeal to a global audience as the three lions bid has claimed that if they host the tournament in 2018, billions will benefit from the decision.
Prince William added a bit of style and aristocratic touch to the England 2018 bid as he emphasized on the passion that prevails in England with regards to football. He said in his remarks that he loves football and so does the English nation. England missed
out on the 2006 World Cup previously as the hosting rights of the 2006 version of the tournament went to Germany.
Alternatively, Russia is also in the running for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Siberian nation is some way behind the likes of England and Portugal due to its under developed infrastructure, a controversial fact that has been highlighted in the news of late.
Nonetheless, Russian bid gathers strength when it comes to legacy. Russia has emphasized the fact that the World Cup will leave an ever lasting impact on the Russian nation. The Russian 2018 delegation also paid heed to the fact that Russia as a host nation
can emerge as a brilliant venue and a footballing market.
Nevertheless, there are some strong contenders for the 2022 World Cup. Most noticeably U.S.A, the North American continent has not seen a World Cup host since 1994, therefore U.S.A has emphasized the fact that they should be given the chance to light the
footballing world bright with their experience as Barrack Obama’s nation does have the capacity to launch a truly memorable World Cup. Qatar’s 2022 bid is also seen as a strong one as the Middle Eastern nation has ambitiously put forward its proposal to build
over 8 purpose built soccer stadiums.
Australia are also in the running for the 2022 World Cup as well, the Australian continent specializes in hosting marvellous sporting competitions. Anyone who saw the 2000 Sydney Olympics will remember, one of the greatest sporting events of all time. Nonetheless,
Australia can be a hard place to travel to for all the football fans, there is also another issue with regards to the Aussie nations passion for the game as sports like Rugby and Cricket are more popular down under as compared to football.
South Korea and Japan have also put forward their respective bids to host the 2022 version of the FIFA World Cup. Their credentials are by no means weak when compared to other nations in the running for the 2022 World Cup but their bid falls short when it
comes to fanfare in the far east for football.
