FIFA WORLD CUP 2010- Former England Football Captain John Terry Heads the Latest Team Controversies

The former England captain and current Chelsea captain, John Terry, surrendered in front of the press, after giving shocking comments in the shocking draw to Algeria.

Of what he calls “attempt to honesty”, John Terry has been openly criticized by senior professionals, coaches and player alike, of the comments he made to the English coach, Fabio Capello. Terry was stripped off the captaincy after news of having relations with team mate Wayne Bridge’s partner. He gave his mind of the team selection and morale subsequent to the disappointing draw against the low lying Algerians.

England were perhaps the pre tournament favourites, and the cruel English media, praised their stars, converting them to perhaps immortals. That huge illusion created by the media, fans and the prolific stars of the England team, was destroyed when they drew to the US in their opening match. After taking an early lead by a beautiful finish from the English Captain, the English became prey to stroke of hard luck. Robert Green, the English goal keeper, fumbled with a simple, long ranged shot, and let it pass into his goal. England never looked like coming back after that, and drew 1-1.

All the English big names, like Rooney and Lampard, vowed to come back stronger in their next match against Algeria. In a match which the made the English look like a street team, Algeria dominated possession and took more chances at goal. The in-form stars of the premier league couldn’t make one competitive move to disrupt the Algerians, with most of their passes being easily intercepted. It was not the team who won 9 out 10 matches in their qualifiers, and lacked any team chemistry.

Rooney, the striker who scored 34 goals for his club Manchester United, looked average and ordinary, as he only had a few touches. None of the starting 11 looked like extra-ordinary, as they were clearly dominated by a much better and enthusiastic Algerian side. After such a disappointing display, sparks flew in the English camp, with Terry making the most controversial of comments.

However, he had slim support from others in the English camp, and had to apologise in an effort to defuse tension prior to the crunch game against Slovenia. He stated that he never intended to offend the manager or the players. If he did, he is sorry. Terry, along with many others, believes that Joe Cole should start on the left of the midfield, and blames himself for going “too far” in his comments.  He is said to have confined in the English manager, that he fully supports him and stressed that his presence has not caused a disruptive influence in the camp.
Terry’s tone has now completely changed, with claims that he would now just concentrate on winning the massive game against Slovenia. He argues that his comments about the English camp were merely to signify the importance of the game they drew against the U.S. and how crucial the next would be. The quick change in his tones is truly commendable. Following Algeria’s draw, he was deemed to lead a revolt the size Che Guevara and similar revolutionists thought of bringing. Moreover, in a flash, Terry becomes this naive and innocent child who meant no harm.

Whatever may be the case, Terry and the English squad should keep their head straight now and give their best, in what may prove out to be a total disaster, if they failed to deliver against Slovenia.

The English media is renowned of being the cruellest, and can quickly turn any hero into a zero in a matter of a few pages of newspaper. Over 30,000 English fans went to South Africa to see their football heroes perform at the Grandest Stage of Football; The FIFA WORLD CUP. They are now hugely disappointed by their team’s inability to perform, and would be hopeful they find the right mix in time when they meet Slovenia in the final match of Group C.
