FIFA World Cup 2010 – Argentina Vs Germany – Are the Germans the only team that can stop the “all-winning” Argentina?

Can a team actually take over the momentum of the Argentinean squad? If there is a team in this World Cup that might, it is Germany. The Germans are strong at the back and can combine really well in the midfield. Their strikers have that “spark” that is required to finish the ball perfectly.

The Germans did not have a perfect run in this FIFA World Cup 2010, but they have been impressive throughout the tournament. They were paired up with Australia, Ghana and Serbia. Their first match was against the Australians and they won the match by smashing the Australians 4-0 to make an impressive start to the tournament.

Their second match was against the best defending side of their group, Serbia, and they lost to Serbia after Klose’ was given two yellow cards after committing a foul and then later for almost doing nothing. The Serbians, still, were not dominating the game but they won the match 1-0 after a goal in the second half. The Germans took a blow after the defeat as they had to win the match against Ghana to top the group; and they did just what they were supposed to do. Although, Ghana played really well throughout the match but they were unable to hold the Germans down, as Ozil scored a marvellous goal from outside the box with his weaker left foot. The win against Ghana secured a place for the Germans in the pre quarter finals.

The Germans went to meet the favourites of the World Cup, England. The English could not really combine well against the Germans and suffered a loss with a three goal margin, with the final score line 4-1. Lampard’s goal, which was well inside the line but not given by the referee will forever remain a fresh wound for the English. The Germans thrashed the English and proceeded towards the quarter finals.

Argentina, on the other hand, has been nothing less than impressive. They triumphed over each and every team that came in their way. They were paired in a relatively easier group than the Germans, with Nigeria, Greece and the very impressive Korean side. Diego Maradona’s first target was the Nigerians. An early header put to goal by Heinze was enough to put them through, even though the Nigerian keeper denied Lionel Messi time and again and did not let him score a goal throughout the match. Their second match was against the Koreans. The match started with a slower pace shown by the Argentinean team, as they tried to keep most of the possession. Soon they found the net by scoring the first goal of the match. A free kick taken by Lionel Messi, deflected into the net by a Korean defender. Later, into the first half, the Argentineans scored another goal, with Messi running inside to hit the pole and Higuain just tapping the ball in. Later, with sloppy defending, the Koreans scored their first goal by winning the ball near the 18 yard box and scoring just before the end of the first half.

Later, during the second half, Aguero was introduced and made a drastic change in the game play. Messi and Aguero combined really well and a pass from Aguero helped Higuain score his second of the match and third of the team. Then later, they put an end by Higuain scoring his hat-trick and putting the Koreans out of their misery. Their last match was against the best defending side, Greece. They frustrated Argentina way too much and did not let them score in the first half. Finally, in the second half, they made a breakthrough when they won a corner and the Argentinean defender shot the ball into the net after a lovely ball played by Veron. Later, a shot taken by Messi was deflected by the keeper and put home by the 32 year old attacker Palmero. The “all-winning” Argentineans went on to meet their fellow South Americans, Mexico, in the pre quarter finals. They thrashed the Mexicans in a controversial game and won the match 3-1, as Tevez scored two goals for his country and Higuain scored 1 to make himself the highest scoring player of the tournament, so far.

Argentina and Germany is considered to be “the final” of the FIFA World Cup 2010. According to many experts, the team who wins today is going to win the World Cup. However, we cannot count out the European champions, Spain and the other European giants, Netherlands, after their amazing victory over the World’s best team, Brazil. Chances for both the teams are 50-50, because they both are playing at the top of their game, at the moment.
