FIFA World Cup 2010: Del Bosque looks forward to the final
Spain reached their first ever World Cup final in their sporting history by beating Germany in their semi-final match by a goal to nil last night. In an epic battle between the two giants, Puyol’s header abilities proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Spain’s best finish in a FIFA World Cup tournament has been a fourth place one. They achieved that position in the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Spain are the present European champions and after their confident display against Germany in the semi-final, they are currently the favorites to win the World Cup.
Spain meet Holland in the final, who are making their first World Cup final appearance in 32 years. Holland, who are also known as Netherlands or the Dutch, along with Spain are widely regarded as under-achievers in World football. This is because despite having various superstars over the past years in their squads, Spain and Holland have failed to perform at crucial knockout stages such as the semi-finals and the quarter finals.
However, all of that is about to change as both of these teams are in the final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It is also important to note that neither of these sides has ever won the FIFA World Cup competition in their history.
Del Bosque the Spanish manager, will become a legend in Spanish football history, should Spain win the final match. He was expressing his thoughts after the semi-final win over Germany by saying that, Holland are an excellent footballing side and that they have been striving to become the World Champions for many years. He also added that Holland have an excellent record, and it will be interesting as two great teams try to become World Champions for the first time.
The Spanish manager also said that he is not sure whether his team’s style is based on the Dutch style of total football, but he remarked that Spain play with an organized midfield which helps players showcase their individual talents. He also said that Spain have great players and that makes everything easy for them.
Xavi, who plays for Spain in their midfield, and was voted as man of the match after his performance in the semi-final match against Germany, said that Holland are a great team with excellent players in their midfield. He also stated that Spain will look the play the same way that they did against Germany.
German manager, Joachim Low was humble in defeat and said that Spain are the best team in the world right now. He also said that they are a skillful team and that they have shown that over the past three years. Low stated that Spain moved the ball quickly and Germany were not able to play the way they had done in previous matches.
He also praised Spanish ability to dominate the match. He said that Spain are masters of football and that they always win the important matches. He also compared Spain’s style to that of Barcelona and said that they see every pass on the field.
Low also told the media that according to him Spain will win the final match of the World Cup because they are usually in complete control of the match, he explained that they dominate every opponent and have the capability to defeat everyone and anyone. He also conceded that Spain deserved to win the semi-final match against his team because they were the better team.
