FIFA World Cup 2010 – Diego Maradona praises Jose Mourinho.
The Argentinean coach, Diego Maradona, whose team has shown great form recently in the FIFA World Cup 2010, revealed to the press how he praises the Portuguese International Jose Mourinho as a coach.
The Argentinean coach had one hundred and seven candidates and he had to choose only twenty seven for this FIFA World Cup 2010. He is pretty confident with the squad he has chosen, although many of the people have criticized his selection. The biggest shock that struck the Argentinean fans were the left out defenders, Cambiasso, Javier Zenetti and Gabriel Milito. All three of these defenders had shown amazing skill in their particular leagues; although no one knows why Maradona did not select any of these players. The other shock was for the board of the Argentinean football association. They did not want Diego Maradona to take Higuain along with him to the South African World Cup but Higuain scored the first and the only hat-trick of the tournament. It was seen how Lionel Messi aided Higuain for the three goals, but all three of them were tapped in by Higuain himself.
Maradona introduced his team when he faced the first team of his group, Nigeria. They made a break through pretty early by winning a corner after a shot from Messi was blocked and Heinze, the left back, managed to score the only goal of the match with a wonderful header. The fans were pretty shocked about the right back, Gutiaris, who is actually a left footed midfielder in New Castle United. On the other hand, the attackers managed to impress time after time, as they kept on testing the Nigerian goalkeeper who was playing at his best in that match. He denied Lionel Messi, at least ten times and the total shots on goal were more than twenty.
In the next match against the Korean Republic, the team was on fire. They lead early on with an own goal after Messi took a free kick. Later, they made it two goals to nil by a tap in goal by Higuain. Soon, the Koreans made it two goals to one after a mistake made in the defence while giving a back pass. In the second half, Kun Aguero was introduced from the bench and Messi and Aguero combined together for a combo. Both of them made amazing moves and finally Messi found Aguero, who found Higuain to head the ball into the net to make it three one. Soon, Messi again came really close to scoring a goal and Higuain tapped the ball into the net to make it four one and score the first hat-trick of the world cup.
In the third match, as promised, Maradona brought out his second team with Messi wearing the arm band for the very first time for his team. This time Argentina was against a defensive team, the Greeks, who did not let the Argentinean strikers make a breakthrough in the first half. Later, in the second half, a corner from Veron brought the Argentineans back to life, as the Munich’s centre back Dimichile found the net with his powerful shoot on the top right corner. Later, Messi made a run inside the box and shot the ball onto the pole. Soon, he got the ball on the right hand side and he went on to his favourite position to shoot it, where the keeper denied it but the thirty two year old Palermo sealed the deal by making no mistake on the deflection and scoring the second goal. He became the oldest player to score a goal for Argentina.
So far, Maradona’s side is unbeaten with nine points in their group. Now they go on to face the impressive South American side, Mexico. Diego Maradona praises Jose Mourinho by telling the press how Mourinho is always going for a win just like he wants it. Although he does not like the idea of defending too much, like Inter Milan did against Barcelona in the Champion’s League but he does like the fact that Mourinho still won the match.
Diego Maradona even said that he might call Jose Mourinho up for listening to his tactics and his advice on how the team should perform. He even said that since he’s inexperienced with the coaching strategies, he will definitely call Mourinho to discuss about the weak defence he has. Let’s wait and see how that is going to affect the Argentinean style of play.
