FIFA World Cup 2010: Dutch Manager Says Holland Don’t Fear Spain
After Sergio Busquets declared that Spain are well capable of stifling the Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, Dutch manager has replied with a few words of his own as things are heating up ahead of the most important match of the World Cup.
The final match is scheduled to be played in the Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg between Spain and Holland. Holland will make their third World Cup final appearance but have never won the World Cup as their previous two final meetings against West Germany and Argentina ended in defeats. For Spain, Sunday will mark their first ever world cup final appearance, their best finish in the World Cup so far has been a fourth place finish which came way back in the 1950 World Cup.
The final is special in many ways, as firstly it will produce a first ever world cup winner because neither of these teams have won the world cup in their football history. Secondly, it will also change the fact that no European team has won the world cup when the tournament itself has been hosted by a non-European nation, with both Spain and Holland which are both European outfits, the above stated detail is bound to change.
Spain enter the final match as favorites, despite not show-casing their best form in the World Cup so far, Spain have reached the World Cup final. After defeating Germany in the semi-finals, Spain are geared up for another imposing performance against Holland in the final.
However, Holland are not scared by the favorites and their style of play. The Dutch national team manager has come out and declared that the Dutch don’t fear the Spanish despite their superior style of play. Vicente Del Bosque, who is the manager of the Spanish national team has changed the way Spain play. He has integrated focus on retaining possession of the ball at all costs. Spain are also the current European Champions, after they defeated Germany in the final of UEFA Euro 2008.
Van Marwijk, the Dutch coach said that Spain are playing more attractive football right now and that they have a few more advantages than Holland going into the final match of the tournament. Marwijk also stated that Spain play extremely well with the ball and also are impressive without it as they react very quickly to mistakes.
He further added that the past plays no part in this game and the fact that neither team has experienced world cup glory in the past is useless. He also said that Spain have no secrets to hide from the Dutch and that the Dutch are not afraid of anyone.
The Dutch manager said that he has a plan for the game which he will only reveal to the players and not to the media. He also commented that it doesn’t interest him if the whole world thinks that Spain are the favorites. He also added that it will be a big challenge to take on this Spanish side and beat them.
