FIFA World Cup 2010: Fabio Capello holding the reins to England’s future, weeding England and sprouting new players is his plan
Fabio Capello the England manager seems to be just on the verge of dismissing several members from the World Cup squad. However he is showing hope for the English fans as rumours are rife that he is going to sign new youngsters to the team.
After the disastrous World Cup campaign in which they drew their first matches and only were able to defeat Slovenia in the last one; thanks to a goal by Jermain Defoe. However lady luck did not stay long with them as they were defeated by Germany 4-1 in one of the most controversial matches in history. The match also saw the disallowed goal by Frank Lampard.
Sources have told us that the Three Lion’s Coach is very unhappy with the results of his team in South Africa and blames it on his team’s lack of courage and the inability to follow his instructions. That in fact is true even if till an extent. The English side did present dull and lethargic play in which they all seemed disconnected throughout the tournament.
After the tournament there were a lot of rumours going around that either the 64 year old Fabio Capello will quit his job or he will be axed by the Football Association. However things took a turn around and now it seems that the things are looking brighter for him. The FA board has confirmed Capello’s role in the team and now the Italian looks to promote new and young starlets to the squad for the 2012 qualifying campaign.
Another source reportedly said to be very close to Capello told the press that the Italian found it completely inexcusable that the players who showed courage in the qualifying rounds did now show the same amount of courage in South Africa where it mattered.
The source also told that Capello finds it unbearable when players from his team lack character on the field. Also this is what he believes happened in the World Cup.
Capello has the two thumbs up from the FA now and is determined to make the new squad in only five weeks time before an international friendly against Hungary. It was also revealed later on that it will be the end of an era for some of the old members of the team.
Capello told a press conference that ‘For some this will be the end’. He added that he was not the kind of person who gave up that easily. If he had committed a mistake, he will go through it over and over again till he finds out what was wrong with the whole situation.
He admitted that there were a few glitches in the strategies he had made for the World Cup and they were hit by the untimely injuries of key players. He told that his team were severely hit by the injury saga that became a major part of their downfall.
Capello continued on by saying that Dave Richards, the Chairman of Club England had asked him about the next tournament and about the new players that he might be bringing like Joe Hart and Adam Johnson.
The supposed players who are going to part with the team are rumoured to be Ledley King, Emile Heskey, David James and the Chelsea captain John Terry.
It is also believed that Steven Gerrard will continue as captain in Rio Ferdinand’s, the Manchester united defender, absence due to an injury.
Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard face heavy criticism and it remains to be seen if Capello will keep faith in his fans who he failed in South Africa.
Still looking at what is ahead for The Three Lions it is not all gloom and doom as they have some really bright stars coming in, Wilshere from Arsenal, Kiren Gibbs and Adam Johnson.
