FIFA World Cup 2010: Golden Boot Winner, Germany's Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller won the World Cup Golden Boot and the Young Player of the tournament award. He took home these two personal achievements along with the third place medal that Germany will be taking back with him.

Thomas Muller, was born on September the thirteenth, 1989 in the city of Weilheim, Germany. Muller’s talents were spotted by the Bayern Munich scouts on July the first when he was just ten years old. He signed for Munich straight from his childhood team of TSV Paehl.

Thomas Mullet made his first senior debut for the Bayern Munich squad on August 15th, 2008. He came on as a substitute for Klose, in the seventy ninth minute. He made a series of appearances during the 2008- 2008 season he even managed to score in the second leg of the Champions league match between, Bayern Munich and Sporting, Bayern went on to win that match twelve goals to one.

Bayern’s new Dutch coach, Louis Van Gaal, who was appointed before the start of the 2009-2010 season, was impressed by Muller from the start. His appointment led to Muller playing much more frequently in the first team at Munich. He made a total of thirty four appearances last season and managed to score a total of thirteen goals.

His attacking threat helped Munich clinch their twenty second German league title. Muller also featured in the German domestic cup final, which saw Bayern Munich take on Werder Bremen. Munich ended up winning that match by a score line of four goals to nil. However Muller couldn’t help Munich overcome the task of defeating Mourinho’s Inter Milan and this resulted in Munich and Muller losing out on the Champions League trophy by coming in second place after losing to Inter Milan two goals to nil.

Muller made his first international appearance for the German team on March the third in 2010. The German’s faced Argentina in that match. The Argentineans ended up winning that game by one goal to nil.

Muller scored his first goal in the FIFA World Cup 2010, in Germany’s opening match against Australia which Germany won comfortably by four goals to nil. He then went on to score two goals in Germany’s quarter final meeting with England.

The match was supposed to be a highly contested one, but the Germans sent the English home, by thrashing them four goals to one. In Germany’s semi final match with Argentina, Muller scored in the first three minutes, the match ended with Germany crushing the South Americans by four goals to nil. Muller scored his fifth goal of the tournament in the third place play off against Uruguay, Germany won the nail biting encounter by three goals to two. Muller set a record by having a hundred percent shot to goal ratio.

The tournament ended with four people having scored five goals, Villa, Sneijder, Forlan and Muller. Muller was awarded the Golden Boot due to the fact that he also had more assists than all the other players.
