FIFA World Cup 2010: Key Battles for Germany Vs Spain
Spain vs Germany is already destined to be one of the greatest games of all time. Games of this caliber or magnitude however are almost never won by the efforts of a single powerful player, they are won by a combined team effort, with every team member giving a hundred percent. There are some key battles between players on both teams, these battles eventually determine the outcome of the match.
The goalkeepers on both ends will need to put in a solid performance, and so far neither of the two keepers has been forced to make a real match changing save. But all of that could potentially change, when the two most in-form strikers of the World Cup, Villa and Klose face off against these two keepers. Both the keepers will face players who are on top form and are known for their ability to find the back of the net from any angle.
On the defense line the main battle will be between the side backs, Phillip Lahm and Sergio Ramos. The two of them will be playing on opposite ends of the pitch, but will still be looking to outperform the other. Lahm is a calm, composed side back who has grown to achieve the role of captain for the German side. He makes precision tackles and likes to overlap the wingers. He has completed eighty percent of his passes which only prove that he has far superior passing then most midfielders would even have. Ramos on the other hand is a dynamic power house. He is physical, big and quick. He is able to beat defenders with his pace and strength, he tends to be a little too over offensive. He is a constant threat down the right and offers extra physical strength up front and at the back .
The most interesting and decisive match up would be between the two main play makers, Schweinsteiger and Xavi. Schweinsteiger is the younger of the two players, but has shown maturity way past his years. He reads the game with ease and with great precision. He is skillful and can easily beat one or two men, his physical presence helps with his defensive duties as well and combined with Khedira in the midfield he is going to be the main man pulling all the strings for Germany.
Xavi is the pass master, he is brave, skillful and makes passes no one other than him would be able to see. He is the constant victim of relentless tackles from the opposition but his cool head, has kept him from retaliating and he prefers silencing the opposition with a defense splitting pass. In simple words Xavi lets his game do his talking for him.
This midfield battle will determine which team will come up on top. Neither one of the two teams is faster or more skillful then the other in any one area, but their understanding of the game and the way they play it makes them the greatest teams in the World.
