FIFA World Cup 2010 – Luis Suarez banned for 1 match only
Luis Suarez, the Ajax star and Uruguay national, has proved his worth time and time again and proved how he is “such a good player.” Luis Suarez, in the American team Ajax, has scored 48 goals in 46 matches and has been the player to look out for, throughout the tournament.
Luis Suarez has scored one of the best goals in the FIFA World Cup 2010. It was against the Koreans when he struck the shot from the left hand side, and it curled in to hit the pole and eventually go inside the net for a fabulous goal. Luis Suarez, throughout the World Cup, has been nothing less than impressive.
In the quarter final match against Ghana, Luis Suarez deliberately stopped the ball from going inside the net, with the help of both his hands; as he stood right on the goal line. The match was tied with a goal apiece and the Extra time was about to end when Ghana won a free kick. A header from the top scorer of the Black Stars hit a defender’s knee right on the goal line and went back to Gyan for a rebound. Gyan did not make a mistake this time and headed the ball towards the net, but Luis Suarez was there to save the day for his country as he blocked the ball outside the goal. He was given a red card right on the spot and had to leave the pitch, crying over his mistake and gifting Ghana with a penalty. Gyan, the top scorer in the history of Ghana’s football, took the penalty and hit the cross bar to give Uruguay a hope to win as the match advanced to penalties and the Uruguay national, Luis Suarez’s tears of sadness turned to tears of joy as he left the field.
Uruguay, eventually, turned out to be the winners of the match as Ghana guided the Uruguayan keeper towards two saves and the Uruguayans won the 4-2, over penalties.
Luis Suarez was given a red card, which meant that he was going to miss the next match, semi-final, against Netherlands who defeated Brazil to qualify for the pre-final clash. FIFA said that this was a matter to look into as the discipline committee said that a two match ban would be over the top although there is a rule in the books of FIFA that unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. However, Luis Suarez, in the eyes of his countrymen, is a hero. He sacrificed himself for his country as he is going to miss out in the next match against Netherlands.
FIFA, now, has finally decided that he will only be punished for one match, which is the semi-final, just like the normal rules of the FIFA World Cup. Once a person receives a red card, he is punished for the next match and he cannot be a part of it; just like Luis Suarez who will not be playing the semi-final for his country. The Uruguayan coach supported his striker by saying that calling him a cheat would be too harsh as he did what he could to prevent his team from losing.
If Uruguay is going to qualify for the final in South Africa, Suarez is going to be a part of it as no ban has been put upon him and the Uruguayans are waiting for him to come back and join the team for either the final or the 3rd and 4th position match. For now, Uruguay needs to concentrate more on Netherlands who look to be a tough side as they defeated the Brazilians in an action pact quarter final match.
In other news, Luis Suarez has become a famous character in the world and his hand ball is considered to “legendary” by few people. Suarez has already set his goals upon his future and said that he wants to be a part of either the famous English football club Manchester United or the famous Spanish football club, Barcelona. However, these issues are to be handled later by him, and now he needs to concentrate on the FIFA World Cup 2010.
