FIFA World Cup 2010: Muller to miss semi-final
This World Cup, the Germans have proved to the world that they are a force not be reckoned with. They finished on top of there group, they were then faced with the tough task of battling the England side that was studded with talent. Germany proved you don’t just need to be a good individual player, you need to be a team to perform. They embarrassed England using this mentality and thrashed them four goals to one, it was a result no one would have predicted.
In the quarters, they faced an even bigger test as compared to England in the form of Argentina. Most people believed that the skillful Argentineans would make light work of the Germans. All those people and their doubts for the Germans were put to bed when Germany brutally thrashed the unstoppable Argentineans four goals to nil.
However, now the Germans must face their greatest test of the tournament. They are up against tournament favorites, Spain. Spain have won back to back matches with a score line of one goal to nil, which when compared to Germany’s back to back four goal thrashing seems like a joke. But Spain are a team that are no to be taken lightly.
The last time these two sides faced off against each other was in the final of the Euro 2008. Spain defeated the Germans in that match with a score line of one goal to nil, Fernando Torres scored the only goal of the game. That win gave Spain the title of European champions. The Germans without a doubt have revenge on their minds.
The Germans are going to be facing a major setback in their semi final match against Spain. Tournament shock performer who has been performing on all cylinders to every one’s surprise, Thomas Mueller will not be able to play in the semi final due to a yellow card he picked up in the match against Argentina. He has scored four wonderful and crucial goals in the World Cup so far, floating in from the right wing. This is without a doubt very impressive by any one’s standards.
With Muller gone, the Germans will lack one of their major goal scoring threats. Cacau who is the most competent replacement for Muller is doubtful for the match with a damaged stomach, but if he is able to recover in time then, he would make the perfect replacement. The other potential replacements being considered are Pitor Trochowski, Marko Mario, Toni Kroos and Stefan Keissling. Marin or Trochowski are most likely to be played instead of Muller, but whoever does replace him will have to put in the game of his life.
This clash will be one to remember for the ages and who ever proceeds would have rightfully earned their place. Germany have proven that they are a serious goal scoring threat and even with the fact that Mueller is going to be missing it would be unlikely for them to not win, considering the form they are on.
Whatever happens this is shaping up to be one of the greatest matches of all time.
