FIFA World Cup 2010 – Players who made the English Premier League Proud

Fans from all around the world wanted to see Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney score some goals in the FIFA World Cup 2010; however, nothing of that sort happened because of reasons that no one can explain. Wayne Rooney, according to Alex Ferguson, was under pressure and could not perform because a lot was expected from him. On the other hand, Fernando Torres could not perform because of his fitness issues.

Even though these two could not make the English League proud, as they are currently playing in the English Premier League, there are other players who did actually make the league proud and won a name for their country, league and themselves.

At first, it was the Wigan and Paraguayan star that opened the goal scoring in the FIFA World Cup 2010, against Italy. It was because of Antolin Alcaraz, that the Italians drew the match with Paraguay and then Paraguay advanced to the pre quarter final stages. Paraguay only conceded 2 goals throughout the tournament and he helped his team out thoroughly.

Secondly, the Manchester United star and the South Korean captain, Ji-Sung Park. Park has been amazing in Manchester United and was expected to perform well in the FIFA World Cup 2010. He was the main man for his country and was the goal scorer against the Greeks. His reputation increased even more when he guided his country to qualify for the pre quarter finals.

Thirdly, another South Korean player named Lee Chung-Yong, who is currently playing for Bolton Wanderers. There was too much expected from the winger and he did not disappoint at all. Park Chu-Young, Ji-Sung Park and Chung-Young played well together and helped their team, who were the underdogs; qualify for the pre quarter final stages.

Another player whose services cannot be forgotten by his country is, Kevin-Prince Boateng. He was the first person in the history of the FIFA World Cups that two brothers faced each other in a World Cup match. His brother was Jerome Boateng of Germany, who helped his team go to the semi finals of the FIFA World Cup while the Ghana player Kevin actually managed to help his country qualify for the quarter finals. Sadly, they lost the quarter final to Uruguay after Luis Suarez’s hand-ball right on the goal line.

Nigel Di Jong cannot be forgotten as well. His amazing play at the defence did not let the other side score too many goals, however, he was unlucky enough to get two yellow cards in the quarter final and he could not be a part of the semi final against Uruguay. On a positive note, he has been the wall for the Dutch side and has performed really well throughout the tournament.

The Mexican and the ex Barcelona player who currently play for Tottenham, Giovani Dos Santos is surely a player the English Premier League should be proud of. He completed 138 passes in the FIFA World Cup 2010, although he did not manage to get his name on the assist list. Santos showed the world what he was made of, as his passing ability along with his dribbling ability is a deadly combo. Sadly, he could not help his team advance to the next round as they faced Argentina in the pre quarter finals.

Last but not the least it’s the Liverpool and Netherlands star Dirk Kuyt. The Dutch fans always criticized his presence in their team but he proved them wrong by leading the assists bored in the FIFA World Cup 2010. He has 3 assists in the World Cup already and one of them came during the semi final against Uruguay. He showed great commitment throughout the world cup and has even scored a goal for his team, although it came in when the ball was deflected from the keeper and he just shot it in; and it was not the best goal of the tournament but he still managed to get one inside the net.
