FIFA World Cup 2010: Reasons Why Germany will Beat Spain
The quarter final stage of the World Cup has come to an end. It is now up to the remaining four teams to prove who the best football nation in the world is. The two matches will be Netherlands vs. Uruguay, and, Germany vs. Spain.
The more anticipated match of the two will be the encounter between the Germans and the Spanish. It may be a close game but the odds will be favoring the Germans to beat Spain and move on to the Final. And the facts pertaining to this prediction are presented below.
Firstly, Germany have managed to score a total of fourteen goals so far, while Spain have managed to get only seven. Both teams have won four matches and lost one. Every match the Germans have won so far, they have dominated throughout the game itself, where as Spain have been sneaking their wins in. The fact that Germany tend to attack from the first minute in a game and that Spain try to win it in the last may be one of the most decisive factors to Germanys victory.
Spain’s main goal threat for the World Cup has been, David Villa. He has scored five of the seven goals scored by the team so far. Only one player scoring the goals is not enough for a team to win the World Cup. Germany on the other hand have had every other player contribute to the goal tally, with Klose and Muller with four a piece and Podolski with two goals so far.
Having a good striker up front is important but even he may be rendered useless against an on form goal keeper. Casillas may arguably be the best goal keeper in the world but his performances so far have not been up to his best. On the other hand Manuel Neuer is an upcoming goal keeper who has a point to prove. He has made the most saves at the tournament so far and doesn’t look like he’s going to be stopping any time soon. Germany need Neuer to bring his ‘A’ game if they hope to stop Villa from scoring.
Germany are being called the underdogs against Spain. Everyone is favoring Spain to go all the way at this tournament. However Germany has shown on several occasions that they are more than capable of defying those odds. The best example was when Germany thrashed an on form Argentina, they didn’t just beat them, they annihilated the Argentineans four goals to nil. If they carry that same form on against Spain, then it is highly doubtful that Spain will be going home with the win.
Based on statistics and how the players have been performing, Germany appear to be the winners on paper. Germany have scored more goals then the Spanish and their keepers save average is higher than the Spanish. Germany have also outscored their opponents by more goals then Spain have managed to score. Analyzing all the factors before going into this game, makes it safe to say that Germany will most probably be going all the way to the final game of the tournament.
