FIFA World Cup 2010 Report: Coaches and their Techniques- List of best coaches only Del Bosque & Van Marwijk take their teams forward

Coaching in sports is an art. Some of the best coaches get their teams to perform brilliantly every time they play, while the poor ones have problems with their players and have to squash mutinies. The best coaches have the ability to lead their team into some of the hardest fights of their lives and come out as winners. What makes a good coach and how do the best coaches in the world keep leading their players to victory?

It seems communication is one of the biggest assets a coach can have with his players. The best coaches in the world seem to know how to communicate with their players in a way that gets them effective results. The purpose of effective communication is to inspire players to perform at their best and work as a single unit to achieve a goal. The setting free of a player's potential seems to be top of the list of effective coaching strategies as well.

Coaches that prepare their players before hand are the ones that most likely succeed. However, if a team's plans go haywire and the team suddenly finds itself a goal down or they find they are losing, the coach needs to step up, take charge of the situation and help his team regain its advantage. A coach needs to have the skills in place to adjust his strategy in difficult times. Those coaches are the ones that do well are the one’s who have contingency plan in place if anything goes wrong.

Basically, a coach is measured on a set of criteria. The number of games won, past accomplishments and statistics. Is it only the games won that matter at the end of the day or is that type of coach better, who motivates his team to give solid performances day in and day out, even though they might not always win. If we looked at solid coaches in terms of winning records, Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United would surely be on top of that list. He is the most successful league manager of all time and he started out at Man U in 1986. He excelled at bringing talented players into the team from other teams and worked hard with future talented players on his side. Through these skills, he managed to make Manchester United one of the best football teams in Europe.

With the current World Cup under way, a lot of attention is being focused on the coaches. On the list of best coaches before the tournament started were the likes of, Carlos Dunga of Brazil, Bob Bradley of the USA, Marcelo Lippi of Italy, Vincent Del Bosque of Spain and Bert Van Marwijk of the Netherlands. Out of these coaches, the ones that have taken their teams forward are Vincent Del Bosque and Bert Van Marwijk, because out of this list only Spain and the Netherlands remain in the contest. Brazil was horrifically knocked out and Dunga has since resigned as coach of the national side. The same fate struck Italy, when they were knocked out very early on. It seems the coaches that no one believed in have taken their teams to the semi finals. Uruguay, Netherlands, Spain and Germany are in the semis and their coaches are shining with their teams.

One of the biggest disappointments of the tournament was Diego Maradona, who was in charge of Argentina. So much was talked about him and his team during the tournament but the way they crashed out to Germany was a disgrace and Maradona was sent packing back to Argentina. Coaching is never an easy job and for someone like Maradona, who was an amazing player in his time, he learnt first hand that sometimes talent as a player does not translate into success as a manager.

Much more analysis will be done on coaches, their styles, and the way they interact with their players as the tournament concludes. July 11th is the day of judgement, when the best team, along with their victorious coach will triumph and lift the trophy. All other teams and coaches will enviously look up to them, after all hard work pays off.

It seems though that some people were just born to lead and they understand the intricacies of the job more than others and are able to motivate their players to give stellar performances.
