FIFA World Cup 2010: Rule Changes that need to be made
Football matches are always lined by their fair share of controversies, these controversies often lead to teams loosing at the brink of victory or vice versa. There are a few changes that most people believe should be implemented.
For example, every one saw Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal against Germany, this has lead to FIFA realizing the importance of introducing the goal line technology. This is going to be a revelation for the sport if it manages to go through, but it still won’t make up for the bad decisions the referees use that aren’t goal line related. What FIFA should introduce is the ability to challenge the referee’s decision. Whether it’s an offside, a hand ball, a foul or a goal, the managers on both sides should be given two to three attempts to challenge the referee. The referees can then watch the replays within the span of one minute and reverse a decision if it was wrongly made.
Then comes the case of the dubious penalties or the ridiculously blatant hand balls in the ‘D’ that are made to prevent goals. The most recent example being, the Suarez incident. What FIFA needs to introduce is a rule that declares if a clear goal is obstructed by using unlawful means, the player who did so should be red carded and the goal should be left to stand. Whereas tackles and fouls should still result in penalty kicks.
Stoppage time, it seems to some teams is far too long or far too short in some cases. What FIFA need to do is introduce the same methods of keeping time as rugby officials. The rule is fairly a simple one, every time the ball goes out or play is stopped for some reason or the other, they simple stop the clock. Shocking as it may seem to some, stopping or pausing the time on the stop watch isn’t really all that hard to do, it just requires the push of one button to stop, then the pushing of the same button to restart the clock. What this would do is prevent the referees letting the match over or under play with respect to the time.
The reason for most players complaints and whines this World Cup has been the ball that is used in the matches. The Jubalani is scientifically proven to be the first completely circular ball and has had the best wind tunnel results out of any of the balls ever made. The players still continue to complain about the ball and say that they aren’t used to it. FIFA needs to make it compulsory to use the ball that will be used in the tournament to be introduced in leagues all over the world the preceding season before the start of the tournament . This would give all the players ample time to get used to the way the ball moves and no one would be able to complain about not being using to the ball.
If FIFA introduce or look into all of these factors, then it would leave no room for players or teams complaining. It would then be down to pure skill and would give us the best judgment as to which team is better than the rest.
