FIFA World Cup 2010 Final Report: Spain Vs. Netherlands - Key Elements For Both Teams To Emerge Victorious
The Final of the FIFA World Cup will take place on Sunday which is July the eleventh. The two teams that will be facing off against each other will be Spain and Netherlands. Both of these teams have never had the honor of lifting the trophy. It is close to impossible to predict what will happen during the match and who will emerge on top of the other, but there are certain things that both teams need to do to end the night by being crowned champions.
Spain need to first and foremost contain the Dutch wingers. Robben and Kuyt who would be the most likely choice for the Dutch to play on the wings. They can deliver some dangerous balls in and on occasions tend to go all the way themselves. The Spanish side back, Ramos and Capdevila, will have to constantly be on the backs of Robben and Kuyt. Because of the attacking threat that the Dutch possess, the Spanish back four will need to constantly be in sync and must decide whose marking who in advance so there aren’t any mix up during the game.
The Spanish need to find another goal scorer. The fact is that Villa and Torres will both be heavily marked by the Dutch back line and would find it close to impossible to find any space in which to operate. This is the perfect opportunity for someone else on the Spanish side to finding the back of the net and catch the Dutch by surprise.
Spain need to continue doing what they do best and control the tempo of the game, by keeping maximum possession. But they also need to prevent the Dutch from hitting them on the counter. Spain need to dictate the pace of the game the same way they did against the Germans if they hope to win this match.
The Dutch on the other hand will be aware of the Spanish plan to control the pace of the game and will be looking to hit them on the break. The only team that has managed to beat Spain so far has been the Swiss, they did this by launching some quick counters which caught the Spanish of guard, the Dutch need to do the same and with the pace that their midfield possess, it won’t be much of a problem for the them.
The Dutch also need to be intelligent in their defending, they need to be prepared for wave after wave of Spanish attacks. The Dutch need to keep their nerves in check and not start of shaky like they have done in most of their matches so far. The best way for a team to defend against a team that like to attack is to be strong minded and be disciplined. They must try not to give away and cheap free kicks and must try and break down the Spanish attack as often as they can. All loose balls must be contested for and the Spanish forwards shouldn’t be given much time on the ball.
