FIFA World Cup 2010: Spain’s goal scoring team tribute the winning goal to family and Jarque, Fabregas and Iniesta

The captain of Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas has stated that this is the moment in history for Spain that generations will talk about. It comes after he assisted Andres Iniesta the winner for Spain in the World Cup final.

The midfielder of Gunners gave the pass to the forward of Barcelona of Iniesta in the last minutes of the extra time as Spain beat Arsenal 1-0 at Johannesburg in the Soccer City Stadium.

Fabregas, who was included in the second line up of Spanish squad has played all his matches as a substitute in the World Cup. Nevertheless, he was considered as a Super sub and definitely, when he came on to the field, there was a change in attitude of the players and not only did Spain increase their possession but a greater number of passes and attempts made to score goals.

The Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque has admiringly accepted that fact and complimented Fabregas’s ability to turn the ball around from the opponents defence to the team’s advantage. Fabregas on his substitute playing issue told that though he was frustrated throughout the tournament on playing in the second line up, all his anguish and worries vanished when Spain won the World Cup.

Fabregas stated on the issue, “I was a bit down because I had not played as much as I had wanted but in the end it has all been worth it”.

He also said that he dedicated the victory of Spain to his whole family that lovingly supported him all along his career. He appreciated the support that was given by fans and hoped that this will be the base at which they will build a new dynasty for Spain. The 23 year old said that he knew it, since Spain won the Euro 2008 title that Spain could be the victors for the World Cup and he know hopes that they will repeat their acts at European Championship in two years time.

He commented that the match was extremely tense and the game play was evolved in to a much more physical one. They match had 14 yellow cards two of which lead to a red card.

The red card was given to Everton player John Heitinga. The game saw one of the roughest examples of play in the tournament. Though the English referee Howard Webb was blamed for handing out to many fouls and free kicks, the truth was that the intensified game did all the damage.

Spain indeed took advantage of Netherlands10 men. The unmarked Iniesta got a neat pass from Fabregas and drove it on in to the net to bring the Trophy home. The Barcelona forward stated, “I've made a small contribution in a very tough game, a very rough game - there were all sorts of things happening on the pitch. Spain deserved to win this World Cup. It's something we have to remember and enjoy, and should feel very proud of everyone in this squad”.

He also said that the goal he scored was a tribute to his friend, the Espanyol player, Dani Jarque. Jarque died because of a heart attack in August at the age of 26. Iniesta after scoring the winning goal, revealed his T-shirt which the message of his remembrance.

He expressed, “We wanted to feel his strength. We wanted to pay tribute to him in the world of football, and this was the best opportunity to do so”. He added about the victory saying, “To win the World Cup there are no words to describe it”.

He also said that he was very impressed with the performance of the team and hoped that they had a very bright future ahead of them. After the victory he celibately announced, “This goes beyond sport. We have to celebrate. All the people have been behind us in Spain, and we're delighted to reward them with this victory."
