FIFA World Cup 2010: The most exciting players at the World Cup
There have been tremendous displays of attacking football over the course of the World Cup so far. But some players have stood head and shoulders above the rest. It is because of the attacking skills of these players that their teams have performed as well as they have.
The first name that people will think of here, is none other than that of, David Villa. Villa has been the leading force behind Spain’s bid to try and win the World Cup. He has scored some magnificent goals that saw defenders and goal keepers falter and fall all over the place. The most recent was his goal that saw the dismissal of the Portuguese and saw the Spanish move on towards the quarter finals of the tournament.
Next up is, Lionel Messi, the heart behind the Argentinean attack. Having performed at astonishing levels for his club all season long, most believed he wouldn’t be able to take this form with him on the grandest of stages. But he has silenced his critics with performances that have left the world in awe. He hasn’t registered a goal yet, but that hasn’t stopped him from influencing and being a part of every attack that Argentina launch.
Then we have Wesley Sniejder, the man who has been the pivotal force that has been steering the Dutch so far. He has distributed the ball with precision that no one has been able to so far. He has been holding the ball, getting everyone involved and creating plays that have helped the Dutch maintain their hundred percent record in the tournament so far. He even scored a thunder bolt of a goal against Japan, which eventually led to his team beating Japan and helping Holland qualify at the top of their group.
Mesut Ozil. The man, who has his roots all the way in turkey, has been the lethal weapon of all German attacks. If he isn’t scoring goals, he is creating them for the rest of his team to score. The former winner of the under twenty one world cup, has established himself in the team as one of their most vital players.
Alexis Sanchez, had completed the most successful dribbles in the group stages of the tournament. Considering there were players like, Ronaldo and Messi in those group stage, that in itself is an astonishing feat. He has been a constant threat on the Chilean wing running back and forth, beating a defender or two, whipping in a cross or taking a shot. It’s these breathtaking performances that have attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester United.
Luis Fabiano has been the only all out striker playing for Brazil so far. With the likes of Adriano and Pato, being left out of the squad everyone expected there to be a mountain of pressure on Fabianos shoulders. But that has not been the case, Fabiano has been tremendous to say the least. He has combined beautifully with Kaka and Robinho. It was this combination that saw him score on of the World Cups best constructed goals.
We can only hope that these players continue to perform the way they have been so far, so that we can watch the beautiful game of football being played the way it should be.
