FIFA World Cup 2010 - West Ham United aim for Thierry Henry

West Ham who just avoided relegation in the season gone by, have once again dared to dream big, the London club have made an audacious and ambitious bid for the former Arsenal Man Thierry Henry, who is currently applying his trade at Spanish Champions Barcelona.

If the deal goes through, Henry will be Hammers highest ever earner at Wet Ham, the Frenchman has not had the greatest times at Cam Nou, worshiped like a God At Arsenal, Henry made his move in 2007 in a bid to have success in Europe. Yes he did get exactly that last season, but yet he is not believed to be happy at the Spanish giants, he has been linked with several clubs, which may see him leaving the Catalan giants.

Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls are also believed to be one of the clubs he is likely to go to, as famously former England captain David Beckham also made his move to United states after ending his time at Real Madrid, during his time in Arsenal, Henry was the focal point of the team, the formation and tactics were prepared by keeping him in mind, and he famously also claimed that he can score a goal at Highbury (arsenal’s former home ground) with his eyes closed. However, when he moved to Spain to join Barcelona, he was greeted by a team which boasted many superstars and, he was no longer the centre of attention, and did not even manage to get a regular spot in the staring 11.

David Sullivan, joint chairman has said he wants to sign the French striker, and it is believed that Henry will be offered a two-year deal worth around £75,000 a week, more than £7.5 million in total.

"We're trying to assemble a more prolific strike force at West Ham and I'd love to have Henry here," Sullivan told The Sun. "Our club is in debt but a striker of his quality and standing would make it a great deal”

"Henry is still up there with the best. I've made an offer which would make him the highest-paid player in the club's history. And it's a serious offer because Henry could walk into almost any Premier League side.''

West Ham meanwhile are also looking for a new Manger, after they sacked Jan Franco Zola, and the new boss whoever it may be looks to have his work cut out for him, as he would have to reassemble and rebuild the team.

The lack of goals from West Ham can be understood by looking at the fact that Carlton Cole was the Hammers' most consistent striker, and he only put in 10 goals in the league. Only 3 of which were scored in 2010, Alessandro Diamanti scored 7.

But Guillermo Franco, Mido, Benni McCarthy and Ilan have flattered to deceive, with McCarthy and Mido, both players with proven premier League goal scoring records, failing to score a single goal since arriving in the January transfer window.
