FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil – Squad of Italy
The defending champions for the FIFA World Cup 2010, Italy, were more than just “disappointing” in the tournament. They were knocked out in the group stages even though they were considered to be the favourites for their group. They failed to deliver but many young talented Italians came forward and showed the world that they are still a part of football.
The current coach for the French side is definitely not going to be a part of the next world cup, as he failed to manage the team as he should have. The team was not only a total flop but also failed to come on top to the pre quarter finals even. The only reason they failed to impress was because of the fact that they did not play as they were used to playing. They barely defended and possessed the ball rarely, as well.
The goalkeeper of the Italian team, Buffon, would be 36 years old and would be playing his last FIFA World Cup for the country. The Italian legend helped his team come forward in the FIFA World Cup 2006, when they won the title and became champions; and he can manage to do it again if he gets the proper defenders. Sirigu could be an easy substitute goalkeeper for the European side as they will come forward in the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Many of the Italian players are going to be retired by the time FIFA World Cup 2014 is going to take place and the legendary defender Fabio Cannavaro is one of them. However, in the defence, Motta will fix his place as a right back because of his amazing skills in the club that he plays for. The Centre backs are definitely going to be Bonucci and Chiellini while the left back can be the very young Santon, who is able to come forward as defensive midfielder as well.
In the midfield, if the Italians decide to play 5 midfielders along with 2 wingers then; De Rossi and Poli are going to be the best defensive midfielders the Italians can have. There is no better choice for the European side to play, as defensive midfield. They would be of perfect age after four years and will be ready to serve the team with amazing pace and defensive techniques. Upfront, in the centre midfield would be Cassano, who is going to be playing his last FIFA World Cup. The two wingers would definitely Balotelli, the amazing Inter Milan player who is becoming famous day by day, as many of the English clubs want him in their team. The other winger would be Cadreva; the young 23 year old has impressed many already. The Italians will definitely miss their best midfielder, Pirlo; but he would be old by the time FIFA World Cup 2014 will take place.
Guilardinho, upfront, would be gone by the time the next world cup will start therefore; the Manchester United youngster, Macheda will replace him and take his position of being the centre forward and the “soul striker” of the team. Macheda, upfront, would be dangerous as his finishing ability is really good. He already plays as a power-sub for the English club and has scored almost every time he has been substituted. Other players that might attract the selection committee could be Santacroce, Ranocchia and Marshisio. All these players will be amazing in 4 years time, as they will have the experience to be part of the World Cup Squad. The committee is going to go through a tough time while deciding the soul striker and the midfielders of the squad as many have shined this year and they are young; and there are many that are going to shine because the Italian league is producing great talent. Another talent that the Italian side cannot let go is definitely the English club Liverpool’s new pick, and that is Aquiliani. He is a great attacking midfielder and has the ability to go forward and create chances and even score goals on his own.
Therefore, the starting line-up of the Italian squad would probably be:
Buffon, Motta, Bonucci, Chiellini, Santon, De Rossi, Poli, Candreva, Cassano, Balotelli, Macheda.
Substitutes: Sirigu, Santacroce, Ranocchia, Marchisio, Aquilani, Giovinco, Rossi.
